La Spezia: over a thousand people for the inauguration of the Quintino Sella air raid shelter, for the “La Spezia Forte” project.

Over 1000 people visited theformer “Quintino Sella-Manzoni-Sant'Agostino” shelter, known as Quintino Sella air raid shelter, in Via del Prione, inaugurated Friday June 2, by the Mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini in the presence of the highest authorities, the Liguria Region, and by many citizens who were able to admire the totally restored structure, which is part of the “La Spezia Forte” project, through which the Park of the Walls, Memorial Park , Valdilocchi drums.

During the visit it was possible to witness, through a multimedia installation entitled Under the bombs - La Spezia 18 April 1943, the memory of the tragic bombing that marked our city and the terrible events of the Second World War. The gallery will be open to the public free of charge from 2 to 11 June, from 11am to 19pm (last entry at 18pm), with viewing of themultimedia installation Under the bombs – La Spezia 18 April 1943.

In the coming weeks, however, it will be possible to attend a broader multimedia journey, during which you will be able to learn about the history of the City of La Spezia from the fourteenth to the twentieth century, through the narrative voice of characters and images of iconic places in our territory. A compelling story about the history of La Spezia, which passes from Simon Boccanegra to the corsair Gattilusio, from a nun of the lost monastery of the Poor Clares, from Domenico Chiodo to the fascinating Countess of Castiglione, up to symbolic objects of the city. Memories, testimonies and memory recall a past of which, often, only a few traces remain.

The mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini declares: “Yesterday's inauguration event was well attended by citizens and tourists, who were able to admire one of the most symbolic places of our city completely restored for the first time. I am happy that people were able to see a place that had remained in the shadows for many years to which we gave new life and witnessed the re-enactment of the bombing of 18 April 1943. An installation that I strongly wanted to send a message of peace and remind everyone generations that war only brings suffering.

In the next few months they will also be ready other installations that tell the story of our city. The Quintino Sella Air Raid Shelter is an important step forward in the Spezia Forte project and an extraordinary result that we have thanks to the work of the municipal offices and the workers who worked at a rapid pace to be able to inaugurate it on June 2nd. I thank the Liguria Region which financed the project, the communication company Acmè 04, which created the multimedia products together with the culture sector, the 92nd Division Buffalo Association, for bringing the historic vehicles to via Prione and the entire organisation. which will continue to allow visits in the coming weeks."
