La Spezia organizes the "National Day in memory of road victims"

Spice, Sunday 19 November 2023 occurs the “World and National Day of Remembrance of Road Victims” and for the occasion the Municipality of La Spezia through the Local Police Force, with the participation of the State Police - Traffic Police Section of La Spezia, the Italian Red Cross and the Automobile Club La Spezia has organized a series of initiatives that will take place in Piazza Europa on Sunday 19 November from 10am aimed at promoting the culture of respecting the rules of the Highway Code and improving traffic safety. An awareness and training campaign to prevent the occurrence of accidents and a moment to remember those who lost their lives following road accidents. An opportunity for reflection and warning to promote change, also and above all cultural: “remember the victims to change behavior”.

According to Istat, in 2022 they were 3.159 dead in road accidents in Italy, 223.475 the wounded e 165.889 road accidents. Impressive numbers. This initiative aims to make us reflect on the individual responsibility of each of us, in order to guarantee and promote road safety, raising public awareness of the need for responsible, aware and correct driving.

To this end, on Sunday 19 November, in Piazza Europa, from approximately 10.00 to 12.00, staff of the State Police (especially the Traffic Police), of the Local Police, Red Cross Italian and will be available to citizens with service vehicles, with equipment used for road safety and with information stands to ensure a multidisciplinary approach oriented towards prevention, therefore with the aim of reducing the number and extent of the consequences of road accidents .

During the morning the operators of the Traffic Police, Local Police, Italian Red Cross and Automobile Club La Spezia, each according to their specificities and skills, they will take care to explain the rules on road safety to citizens, the consequences of the use and abuse of Ligurian, alcoholic and narcotic substances on the body and on road safety, data on national and local accidents, good practices and rules to follow when driving vehicles. In this direction, computer programs and demonstration videos can be used as well as the use of tools capable of simulating the state of psycho-physical alteration induced by the intake of alcoholic substances. In particular, the La Spezia Red Cross will present the work carried out throughout 2023 by its Youth group in the form of the project "Saturday Night Live". For 4 years, this project has aimed to raise awareness among young generations of the conscious consumption of alcohol during city nightlife evenings. The young volunteers undergo free alcohol tests with high-precision professional equipment, provide useful information to adopt the right behavior depending on the test results and give away disposable breathalyzers to keep on hand for future eventualities. The Italian Association of Family Members and Road Victims, informed of the initiatives organized in La Spezia, sent a message of closeness and esteem.
