La Spezia: civic theatre, Tullio Solenghi in “The Maneggi to marry a daughter”.

Two evenings at the Civic Theater in the name of Gilberto Govi: The Maneges to marry a daughter, the much loved and well-known workhorse comedy of the great Genoese actor, will be staged Saturday 9 March (21pm) and repeat on Sunday 10 March 2024 at 17.30pm directed by Tullio Solenghi, protagonist of the comedy alongside Elisabetta Pozzi.

The project of staging The Maneges to marry a daughter was born within the first festival dedicated to Gilberto Govi (1885-1966), scheduled at the Teatro Sociale of Camogli in May-June 2022, as its natural consequence: the comedy by Niccolò Bacigalupo (in Genoese I manezzi pe majâ na figgia) it was in fact, as is known, Govi's greatest success.

This new edition, however, does not just aim to celebrate a great actor by re-proposing his warhorse; it also wants to dispel a misunderstanding that is often encountered when talking about Govi: thinking that it is only a Genoese, dialect theatrical mask.

Precisely to enhance the national character of Govi's comedy, the two irresistible protagonists of the Maneggi, Steva and his wife Giggia, are played by two actors born in Genoa, but with a career and national fame: Tullio Solenghi (who also directs) and Elisabetta Pozzi.

Flanked by a company of young actors, Solenghj and Pozzi duet in Govi's warhorse with a fidelity to the original never seen before.

Solenghi has declared that he will leave “meekly step into the shoes and mimicry of Gilberto Govi, assimilating every fragment, every syllable, every atom.” An act of love towards the great Genoese actor and a gift to today's audience, who for the first time, in the theatre, will be able to experience an emotion similar to that of the spectators who were lucky enough to applaud Govi live.

The participation in the production of a world-famous prose and opera director such as Davide Livermore, creator of the scenographic project, also goes in this direction.
