In the context of 98th Palio del Golfo, from 27 July, the Palio Village will be the stage for BLUE FESTIVAL: a rich calendar of shows and talks to learn about, share, discover and protect the marine environment, its precious habitat and share the culture of the blue economy.

The Palio del Golfo is the most awaited event in our city, a competition that deeply involves the villages and those who live there, which has obtained the prestigious patronage of the Ministry of the Sea. To further celebrate this moment, the Blue Festival was created, which will be hosted entirely in La Spezia and will offer citizens many opportunities to reflect on the culture of the sea and the protection of this environment.

The Memorandum of Understanding aimed at valorising the Palio del Golfo was signed by the Municipality of La Spezia, the Port System Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea, the Carispezia Foundation and the Committee of the Villages. This agreement demonstrates the great value that the Blue Festival represents for the La Spezia area and its growth opportunities. In fact, around this event, a network of collaborations was created between professionals, experts and associations who recognized La Spezia as a starting point for research, development and social inclusion. During these days of events, experiential workshops, excursions, musical performances and appointments are planned to fascinate and give the opportunity to delve deeper into the issues of the Blue Economy, raising public awareness about sustainability and protection.

The mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini declares: “The Blue Festival constitutes a unique opportunity for the knowledge, discovery and protection of our marine environment, also proving to be a fundamental opportunity to raise awareness among each of us regarding the crucial importance of safeguarding our seas and promoting sustainable development. The rich program of workshops, conferences and events dedicated to the Blue Economy allows us to delve into topics of extreme interest for the future of our community. It is important to highlight that our province represents the main Italian hub in the maritime economy, in relation to the total economy, an aspect of which we are rightly proud. Therefore, it is essential to promote discussion on these topics and inform citizens so that they understand the importance of respect for the marine environment and the opportunity to exploit the resources it offers us in a responsible manner".

Linda Messini, Vice President of the Carispezia Foundation: “We are very pleased to have participated as promoting bodies in the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the organization of the second edition of the “Blue Festival”, an event that is part of the activities of the Palio del Golfo of La Spezia and wants to invest in the valorisation and potential of our territory. With this new and expanded edition and, thanks to the collaboration of the vast network of actors involved, we intend to increasingly promote and enhance the peculiarities and environmental riches linked to the culture of the sea".

Blue Festival is divided into large areas:

The BLUE FESTIVAL KIDS with workshops designed specifically for the little ones and organized by the Zoe cooperative Management of cultural services at the Carispezia Foundation.

THE BLUE TALKS they will be opportunities for dialogue on science, on the Blue Economy and on the topic of water, a look at the future that must start from solid knowledge in the present.

To capture the atmosphere of the Festival, the EXPERIENCES were designed: experiences and storytelling to immerse yourself in the blue, from the sky to the sea. Fun will not be secondary, in the SHOWS art tells the story of environmental challenges and creativity becomes the protagonist of the Blue Festival, the public will be able to appreciate photography, literature, music and docu-films.

There will also be room for taste, the FOOD BLUE sets itself an objective: to bring sustainability, quality and excellence to the plate and the glass.

Il August 2th 2023, the Blue Festival will be enriched with a Navy stand dedicated to the Divers category which this year celebrates the 90th anniversary of its establishment. It will be an opportunity to get to know the COMSUBIN divers and observe their underwater equipment. As part of the docu-film series "A whale in the shell and other stories" you can watch the presentation of a short video regarding an underwater archaeological intervention carried out in favor of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Liguria".

BLUE FESTIVAL is an event dedicated to the greatest possible inclusion, organized by the Borgate del Palio del Golfo Committee and the Municipality of La Spezia, with the support of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea and the Carispezia Foundation. Coordination is entrusted to BASI Comunicanti in collaboration with "Il Pianeta Azzurro" and the Scholé Futuro Institute for the Environment and Education - WEEC Network.
