Grosseto: “Barbanella City”, the presentation event of an innovative project for the neighborhood.
It is entitled “Barbanella City” the presentation event of an innovative and visionary project for Barbanella district, which the 3rd and 4th classes of the Architecture High School of Grosseto presented in the conference room of the Natural History Museum of Maremma, as the highlight of their PCTO path this school year.
Starting from the observation of the city, from the urban history of Grosseto and the Barbanella district (also thanks to the collaboration with Isgrec) and through the administration of a questionnaire to the inhabitants, the students of the 4th A class got to know the district in depth and they created a mapping of its livability in the perception of citizens.
The theoretical and analytical horizon of this work originated from the collaboration with the Sex and the city Association of Milano, founded by architects Florencia Andreola and Azzurra Muzzonigro, and their work of observing cities from a gender point of view to build a framework capable of integrating the gender dimension in reflection on the city, so as to provide public administrations with a useful tool to formulate policies that can organize spaces aiming for the well-being of all.
At the same time, class 3A has created an urban planning project that sees the Barbanella neighborhood become a green zone, pedestrian and cycle, recovering some disused spaces such as the seaplane base and the old railway, in the name of eco-sustainability. It's about designing one “red line”: an aerial route that develops along the park and connects the eastern part of Grosseto with the western one, divided by the railway, which includes a cycle-pedestrian bridge that connects Barbanella with Via della Pace, drawing inspiration from an old urban planning project.
A prospect of livability and sustainability similar to what has already actually happened with the West Side Line of Manhattan, where an abandoned section of subway transformed into an elevated park, or the Red Line Project designed by Hu Li, intended to enhance the public spaces of the immense suburbs of Beijing. To design recreational spaces suitable for children, the class experimented with a conscious and creative use of Artificial Intelligence, simultaneously learning to use the latest software for drawing in 3D.
This architectural project, which started from a module of Tactical Urban Planning that the classes had faced during the last year, represents an important phase of the broader multi-year PCTO business simulation project that the Liceo Artistico has set up in recent years. two school years: THE FACTORY. LA, acronym for Artistic High School, FACTORY, wants to be a creative container of arts and crafts, between artistic-technical wisdom and innovation, in the name of environmental sustainability, to accustom children not only to learning, but also to interpreting the surrounding reality and above all to think and create a new educational and working perspective together, in a futuristic but at the same time realistic vision of art, of one's city, of one's life and work project. A choral path that has seen (and will see in the coming years) the collaboration between the students of the different architecture classes guided by professionals, by the teachers of different curricular subjects and above all by the Architecture teachers Francesca Amore and Marta Rabagli.
“I have great faith in today's young people who find themselves facing a lifestyle different from that of my generation – comments the mayor Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna – Society has evolved and continues to evolve rapidly. Projects like this, carried out by you, in solidarity, represent important manifestations of enrichment and, certainly, of hope for the future. The aspect of the green, even at an urban planning level, is important and the fact that you have understood it makes it clear that you are on the right path. Thank you all".
