Cremona, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Cremona, 25 November 2020 – The "International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women", established on 25 December 17, is celebrated throughout the world on 1999 November. by the United Nations General Assembly which every year invite governments, international organizations and civil society to organize activities aimed at raising public awareness.
This year the health emergency, considering the necessary provisions to prevent and contain the virus, has created a difficult context for women asking for help but also for those who have already undertaken a path to escape from violence taking into account the economic impact of the pandemic. The risk of violence against women has increased with isolation in the home and family. Significant, in this regard, are the indicators and analyzes published by ISTAT which has dedicated an ad hoc section on the topic.
“The action to prevent and combat violence against women has continued in this period of health and social emergency”, declares the Councilor for Social Policies and Fragility Rosita Viola, who adds: “In the months of the lockdown the services, the anti-violence centers have always remained active, as have the interventions and collaboration of the local police and law enforcement agencies. Listening and response services, such as the 1522 number and the presence of anti-violence centres, are now more necessary than ever to allow women to have contact with the outside world in a confidential and safe way. The daily news tells us that the road is still uphill and that it must be everyone's commitment to prevent and combat violence against women. But every year important tools are also added such as the so-called Red Code through Law 69/2019, to protect women and those who suffer violence due to persecutory acts and mistreatment".
“In addition to the provisions regarding family mistreatment, stalking, sexual violence, domestic and gender violence, the law in question inserts new crimes into the Penal Code such as the crime of illicit dissemination of sexually explicit video images without the consent of the persons (so-called revenge porn). Our commitment is today but above all every day in and with the Territorial Network for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women, where we work on joint projects and actions, a composite network, active for years, which has expanded and which renews its action”, concludes the Councillor.
The program of initiatives received and organized in the city by various bodies and associations of the Territorial Network for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women will take place from today, November 25th until December 10th, the date corresponding to International Human Rights Day, because violence against women is a violation of human rights.
In particular the international campaign “ORANGE THE WORLD. An orange world against violence against women", promoted by the United Nations - UN Women takes place from 25 November to 10 December, sixteen days of activism against gender violence, and aims to raise awareness and mobilize people to make a change. The campaign's designated color is orange to symbolize a brighter future without violence.
