Claudio Ranieri is an honorary citizen of Cagliari, a recognition that the Sardinian island proudly bestows on him.

Two proposals were presented in the documents with the first signatories being the councilors Matteo Massa and Andrea Piras, with the same aim: that of giving the Cagliari coach formal recognition of something that all the people of Cagliari, and not only them, had already granted him. Especially after the exciting ride of last season which projected the island team back into Serie A after the bitterness experienced due to relegation in the previous championship.

Since 12 September, therefore, Ranieri has officially been an honorary citizen of the Sardinian capital. The entire Council voted in a united manner and in the session led by President Edoardo Tocco, in which Mayor Paolo Truzzu also took part, expressed the favorable opinion of all 32 councilors present in the Chamber.

The Rome-born coach was not present at the time of the voting but the formal presentation of the recognition will be organized in the coming weeks.

“Considering – we read among the reasons – Claudio Ranieri's attachment and love to the city which he has always considered his second home. Mister Ranieri's exploits with Cagliari represent a heritage of collective memory for the Cagliaritans and for all the fans in Sardinia and outside the island".

And the person concerned entrusted his thanks to the official channels of the rossoblù club. “I sincerely thank the Mayor and the entire municipal administration for granting me honorary citizenship. It is a recognition that fills me with pride. My heartfelt thanks go to Cagliari Calcio, to my two presidents: Tonino Orrù, with his brothers, and Tommaso Giulini. The city of Cagliari and the island welcomed me for the first time many years ago and since then they have always been part of me. Even when one day we parted ways, people continued to make me feel special, never missing an opportunity to show me their affection. You always made me feel like one of you. If meeting again was in the natural order of things, celebrating together again, contributing to making an entire population happy, was absolutely among the greatest emotions for me. Having regained Serie A, we have a long way to go. And everyone's help will be needed."
