Catania, New Year's Eve is with Giusy Ferreri and the best Sicilian music for four magical evenings in Piazza Duomo.

“I'm waiting for all of you to spend New Year's Eve together... where? But in Piazza Duomo in Catania!”. It is Giusy Ferreri with a warm video greeting who turns the spotlight on the end-of-year events promoted by the municipal administration in collaboration with the regional tourism department and the Sicilian regional assembly and the organization of Puntoeacapo.

The extraordinary commissioner of the Municipality, Federico Portoghese, together with the head of the Cabinet Giuseppe Ferraro and the director of Culture Paolo Di Caro, Nuccio La Ferlita, responsible for Puntoeacapo, the artistic director of the “Curtigghiu” poster, Lello Analfino and the general director of the Fce Salvo Fiore, who proposes initiatives for the extraordinary opening of the metro services. The interventions, moderated by Ruggero Sardo, who will be the host of New Year's Eve, involved some of the artists present in the town hall, starting with Mario Venuti and Zapato.

“It is a very important signal – declared Commissioner Portoghese – for a city that we always try to make the most of, because it deserves it, following that 'step' that I like: that of participatory administration, because when there is it's participation everything is possible. I thank the regional bodies for their support which allow us to create a program with national artists without particular costs for the Municipality.

And this is already a success for me but I am sure - added Portoghese - that it will be amplified by the presence of high-level artists who I also like very much and who will give us extraordinary moments of music and entertainment. I thank the head of cabinet Giuseppe Ferraro who collaborated with me in an exceptional way together with the manager Paolo Di Caro and all the employees who work tirelessly to allow the organization of events made possible thanks to the excellent synergy between public and private".

Four extraordinary evenings which starting from December 28th will enliven the most evocative baroque quadrilateral of the city, with the stage set up in front of the elephant fountain and music by almost all Sicilian artists. And the grand finale on the night of the 31st with the long-awaited concert by Giusy Ferreri and his band, preceded by Bellamorea, Dinastia, Santi Scarcella and closed by the rock and builli of Zapato and Small Combo. On the 28th Lello Analfino and L'Elfo, on the 29th Mario Venuti, Babil On Suite, Brando Madonia, on the 30th The Kolors (the only non-Sicilian ones), Roberta Finocchiaro, Collettivo, the others. All with free entry. And what's more, around the city and in the neighborhoods and suburbs, the suggestions of the "Palcoscenico Catania" shows and the magic of the Christmas markets.

“Thanks to the daily input that the commissioner gives us – said the head of cabinet Ferraro – we also managed to organize an exceptional New Year's Eve. We closed on a high note a season of events that began in style with an important edition of Summer Fest. A push that allowed us to obtain important recognition and funding from the government and the Sicilian regional assembly, which allows us to use the funds we had committed from the tourist tax on this New Year's Eve to improve reception in the representative spaces of Catania and from the best Sicily".

The general director of Fce Salvo Fiore announced the extraordinary opening of the metro on 31 December at night until 2,30 am for the 28, 29, 30 December the activation of the shuttle bus service which, after the closing of the metro at 22,30pm, will offer rides every quarter of an hour from the Stesicoro stop until 2am.

Nuccio La Ferlita focused on the Sicilian nature and the value of the artists, illustrating in detail the program developed under the direction of Lello Analfino, finally thanking Commissioner Portoghese and the municipal administration for believing in a project that rewards culture and music but which will also have an enormous economic and employment impact.
“I couldn't imagine a better place than Catania to return to the square again” commented Analfino, “other than curtigghiu, a luxury curtigghiu” echoed Mario Venuti.
