Calabrian summer: the "Peperoncino Jazz Festival 2024" tour continues. In Crosia there is great anticipation for Peppe Voltarelli's concert.

Started last July 11th and scheduled until early September in over 20 Calabrian locations, it continues, recording great public success and profoundly positive critical feedback at each stage, the Chili Pepper Jazz Festival 2024, a traveling music festival full of related events which this year too, in its XXIII edition, is characterizing and culturally enriching the Calabrian summer, confirming itself as one of the "big events" of the region.

The very rich programme, which includes around forty concerts in the space of just two months, with over 150 artists starring on the various stages of the event – ​​including, in addition to the big names on stage in Sibari as part of the II Magna Graecia Jazz Fest (an event included in the #sibarinprogress programme – the cultural spectacle which saw protagonists, among others, Danilo Rea, Egberto Gismonti, the super trio Moroni/Gomez/La Barbera and Fabrizio Bosso guest of the Elio Coppola trio): Gerald Cannon, Ajax, Denise King, Vinicius Cantuaria, Peter Bernstein, Roberto Gatto, Rachel Z & Omar Hakim, Frank Gambale, Toninho Horta, Joao Bosco, Mafalda Minnozzi, Eric Darius, etc. – the festival organized by the Picanto cultural association and artistically directed by Sergio Gimigliano is preparing to land for the first time in twenty-three years in one of the most important towns in the lower Ionian area of ​​Cosenza: Crosia.

Here, in the beautiful Piazza De Capua, located in the charming historic center of the Calabrian town, thanks to the will of the mayor Maria Teresa Aiello and the entire administrative team led by her, one of their illustrious citizens will be on stage on Wednesday 21 August at 22 pm: Peppe Voltarelli, undoubtedly one of the most interesting singer-songwriters on the contemporary Italian scene , who strongly wanted the hottest music festival in Italy to also stop in his Crosia from this year.

Multifaceted and charismatic artist, Voltarelli, after being the leader of Il Parto delle Nuvole Pesanti (a famous Italian band in the folk-rock and experimental music scene) for fifteen years, is today an appreciated and award-winning singer-songwriter (winner, among other things, of three Tenco plaques : as Best Album in dialect in 2010 for Ultima notte a Mala Strana; as Best Performer in 2016 for Voltarelli sings Profazio, a tribute to the great Calabrian storyteller Otello Profazio; and, again, as Best Performer in 2021 for his highly acclaimed album Planetario), than during his successful solo career he alternated between recording records, writing books and acting in films and plays, collaborating with some of the most important musicians, actors and directors on the Italian scene.

During the evening, free entry, the artist, accompanied by the singer Roberta Carrieri, by the trombonist (on this occasion also on stage as an accordionist) Giuseppe Oliveto and the drummer Alessandro Marzano, will present his latest recording work to the PJF audience, “The great race towards Lupionòpolis”, album of unreleased songs published last year by Visage Music, which in addition to being among the finalist albums for the Targa Tenco 2023 in the category “Best album in dialect”, he recently won the National City of Loano Award for Italian Traditional Music, the most prestigious award for traditional music in Italy, awarded every year to the best folk musical production by a jury made up of over fifty specialized journalists and scholars.

Voltarelli's seventh studio album, it is the first album of unreleased songs at eight years old since the publication of the lucky Voltarelli he sings Profazio and two years later Planetario and is a collection of ten new tracks - of which eight songs in Calabrian dialect - recorded in New York by Marc Urselli (three Grammy Awards and collaborations, among others, with Nick Cave and Lou Reed) in the historic EastSide Sound in Manhattan and artistically produced and arranged by the Los Angeles-based Italian pianist Simone Giuliani (who has productions with Andrea Bocelli and the London Symphony Orchestra to his credit).

After this highly anticipated stop in Crosia, the festival organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the Pollino National Park Authority and whose project was presented under the public notice relating to the 2024 cultural events of the Calabria Region as part of the activities relating to the Calabria Straordinaria brand, Thursday 22 August will return to the Tyrrhenian Sea with Mario Rosini's Laos Jazz Fest concert scheduled in Scalea in the courtyard of Palazzo Spinelli, to then continue in other areas of the region with the concerts of the Brazilian singer Fernanda Santanna and the American vocalist Joyce Yuille, scheduled, respectively, on 23 and 25 August at the Faro Votivo di Mormanno and in the Villa Comunale of San Marco Argentano, before the Sila incursion on 29 August (with the concert by Sasà Calabrese in Camigliatello) and the grand finale in the municipal area of ​​Corigliano Rossano, where the legendary drummer of the Pat Metheny Group Paul Wertico will be on stage (on 28 August in the cloister of Palazzo San Bernardino in the historic center of Rossano) and the overwhelming Portuguese singer Maria Joao (on stage on the 31st at the Ducal Castle of Corigliano).

After this very rich summer session, the grand finale of PJF 2024 is scheduled for November 30th, the day on which at the Cine Teatro Garden in Rende a true all-star band formed by the incendiary guitarist Robben Ford, the historic bassist of The Rolling Stones Darryl Jones, the pianist with a thousand important collaborations Larry Goldings and the powerful drummer Gary Husband will go on stage on stage to pay his tribute to the unforgettable Jeff Beck.
