Calabria participates for the first time in Montreal for the International Tourism & Travel Show.
The Calabria Region, for the first time, from November 3rd to 5th, was the protagonist of Montreal at the International Tourism & Travel Show, the International Travel and Holiday Exhibition, with a important and captivating exhibition space, in the presence of the main tour operators, travel agencies, sector experts and national and international tourism offices.
Hosting the event, promoted by the Department of Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Mobility, was the regional councilor for labor policies Giovanni calabrese and the counselor Antonio Montuoro.
For the Department, led by the general manager, Antonella Cauteruccio, the sector manager was also present Gina Acquino and the official Rosa Conforti.
A particularly important event for make Calabria known with its beauties, for the promotion of the territory, unique for the diversity and identity of the tourist offer, where Calabrian tour operators had the opportunity to initiate interesting contacts and conclude important contracts.
Le projected images made visitors travel from the mountains to the sea, a slow journey through the identity excellences, coast to coast from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Ionian Sea, through authentic villages and cities of art, along natural parks and cycle paths in the internal areas, on the trail of Magna Graecia.
Particularly important, also from the perspective of valorisation of roots tourism due to the notable presence of the community of Calabrian origin in Canada, it was the regional presence as a contribution to "genealogical" or "return tourism", closely linked to the desire to rediscover the deep connection with one's land of origin.
THEfundamental objective it was just that of relaunch and enhance the historical, cultural and tourist heritage of Calabria abroad, in order to encourage the physical return of Calabrians scattered throughout the world.
To underline the importance of the presence of the Calabria Region at the trade fair event, the councilor Calabrese and the counselor Montuoro they stated that “it was a right choice by president Roberto Occhiuto that of having Calabria participate in a tourism promotion event in Canada, in view of the tourism development model that is being built in Calabria with commitment and seriousness day after day".
“This event – added Calabrese – represents one of the main events in the world of the tourism sector and for us it was a useful opportunity to learn about, but mainly talk about, the beauties of our region. The comparison with institutions, entrepreneurs and experts in the tourism sector puts us in a position to be able to create international relations for tourism, plan virtuous forms of tourism, but also because through this network with companies, with tour operators we can talk about opportunities of tourist development, making Calabria a popular destination for its wonders and peculiarities, among the natural landscapes and its history".
The meeting with the Calabrian community was evocative, which was also attended by the consul general of Italy in Montreal, Enrico Pavone, and the vice consul and our countryman, Fortunato Mangiola, who also took part in the presentation of the ministerial project "Roots tourism“, at the stand of the Calabria Region, where there were nnumerous Calabrian Canadian entrepreneurs and professionals.
As part of this project, a positive path has been started with fellow Calabrians promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented for the occasion by officials Cristina Porcelli and Paolo Monea.
Also, with the Montreal Chamber of Commerce, with the president Carmine D'Argenio and the director Ruggera Sarcina, a discussion has begun aimed at signing a memorandum of understanding to encourage investments in our Region and strengthen tourism relations between the Quebec Region and the Calabria Region. The contents of the protocol will be defined during an upcoming visit to Calabria by President D'argenio.
