Brescia wins the "The city for green" award

The Municipality of Brescia won the "The City for Green" award, 2020 edition, in the fourth category, dedicated to municipalities over 50 thousand inhabitants. This important recognition intends enhance the Italian realities that are most committed to the growth of public green spaces, from a quantitative and qualitative point of view. Promoting this initiative is the Milanese publishing house "Il Verde Editoriale" which for 36 years has published the technical-scientific magazine "Acer", dedicated to green and landscape professionals.
Brescia, which had already won in 2003, was awarded the 2020 edition for the environmental recovery and valorisation of the Cave Park.
The highly qualified jury is made up of experts in the sector including Francesco Sartori (formerly professor of Ecology of the territory and terrestrial environments at the University of Pavia), Roberto Panzeri (Il Verde Editoriale), Renato Ferretti (Conaf) , Antonio Maisto (Assoverde), Valter Pironi, Roberto Diolaiti (Public Gardens), Francesca Oggionni (Aipin), Giorgio Strappazzon (Aivep) and Giulia De Angelis (Aiapp).
The awards ceremony, during which the reasons for the win will be expressed, this year will take place in the form of technical webinars, live on November 26th from 10am to 12pm on the FaceBook page of "Il verde editorial" (https:/ /m.facebook.com/acerilverdeeditoriale). The mayor of Brescia Emilio Del Bono and the Environment Councilor Miriam Cominelli will participate in the event.

The “The City for Green” Award was established in 2000 and during these twenty years it has followed the growth of public green areas in Italy, highlighting the transformation interventions of cities in which newly built open spaces or urban transformations industrial districts have improved the quality of life in cities. Furthermore, interventions concerning more specifically naturalistic spaces were valorised, such as new urban forests, the recovery of fountains, the care of suburban woods. Alongside the recognition given to the Municipalities for the new parks and gardens, the constant maintenance of public green areas over time, the ever-increasing importance of volunteering in the context of public management services, the new socialization spaces such as for example the birth of numerous urban gardens.
