Bologna, the dialogue “The living body forest” is scheduled

For the bicentenary of the foundation of the State Forestry Corps

Bologna, the dialogue “The living body forest” is scheduled.

With the dialogue entitled "The living body forest” the conferences dedicated to the forest and landscape organized as part of the exhibition “The Men Who Planted Trees” dedicated to the bicentenary of the foundation of the State Forestry Corps begin today, at 17.00 pm, in the Library of S. Giorgio in Poggiale in Bologna .

The dialogue will see the participation of eminent scholars and researchers who, from different perspectives, will talk about the forest as a place of identity, values and multiple functions.

In fact, every forest reveals stories of connections between trees and trees, between trees and animals, between trees and water, between trees and men, between men and men. The woods are rich in sediments and their marked multifunctionality distinguishes their resilience and the possibility of adapting to changes, even transmutational ones. Alongside these aspects, our forests tell the story of a vision, both technical, social and economic, which accompanied and oriented the great socio-economic transformations of the country in the last century and which restored the Apennine landscape as we know it today.

From here, in a future perspective and also in relation to climate change, the need emerges for a new centrality based on investments, advanced technologies, research, monitoring and support initiatives such as to guide sustainable and innovative forest management.

Today's dialogue "The living body forest" will see the participation of: Lt.Col. Silvia Biondini, biologist, head of the National Carabinieri Center for the Study and Conservation of Forest Biodiversity of Pieve S. Stefano (AR) and involved in the “A tree for the future” project; of the Prof. Alessandro Chiarucci, Full Professor at the University of Bologna, coordinator of a Research Group on Biodiversity and Macroecology, Director of the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences, President of the Italian Botanical Society; from the Prof. Piermaria Corona, Director of the Forestry and Wood Research Center of the Council for Agricultural Research and Agricultural Economic Analysis (CREA). Full professor at the University of Tuscia, engaged in research topics relating to the management and monitoring of forest resources and geomatics applied to the evaluation of environmental resources; of the Dr. Giorgio Vacchiano, researcher and teacher in forest management and planning at the State University of Milano, with particular regard to simulation models to support sustainable forest management; nominated by Nature magazine among the 11 best emerging scientists in the world and author of "The resilience of the forest" (Mondadori, 2019).

The dialogue “The living body forest” will be led by Col. Gabriele Guidi, Commander of the Forlì-Cesena Forest Carabinieri Group.
