On stage is a man, or rather, his inner voice. It's his soul that puts on a show. Among the many inhabitants of the pages of Calvino's novels, is the least free: he has a body, a language and a mind that do not respond to his urge to say, to act. Today and only today, however, he has decided to make a spectacle of his existence, of his thoughts, of the feelings that agitate him. He, nailed as he is to a cross that he didn't want, decided to take an hour of fresh air, an hour and a little more of freedom. And he searches for it, freedom, among the pages of the works of “Mr Calvino Italo”, he tells it as he knows and as he can, he transforms it into verses, into music, into parables and hyperbolic connections between one novel and another, into sarcastic and frenetic theater-songs and sudden intimate minuets, “scalvinando” those works for his use and consumption. All while passing by, bitterly ironic, his very personal love story, an impossible story for that body and that tongue incapable of speaking.
“The character on stage is an inhabitant of Cottolengo, the Dwarf from the autobiographical novel La giorno d'un scrutatore, a character to whom Calvino dedicates only one page, albeit a memorable one. I chose him and imagined his entire existence - an existence that Calvino doesn't tell us - precisely because my intent was to reason around the concept of freedom and the Dwarf in the novel is totally devoid of it", writes Mario Perrotta.

The project "Happy birthday Calvin!”, this extraordinary occasion of the centenary of his birth, will be an opportunity to talk about his life, his works, but above all his entirely personal idea to represent a model of an entirely inorganic intellectual, far from direct commitment, discussing it not only with scholars, critics and specialists of Calvinian literature (Silvio Perrella and Lea Durante), but also opening ourselves to his words with the readings of Paolo Panaro (which brought Il Barone Rampante to the stage), and to the encounter with musical projects dedicated to “Invisible cities”, played by Mirko Signorile in duo with Giovanna Carone.
