Bari: the Sea festival returns with exclusive concerts.
Robert Plant, Sigur Rós, The Heliocentrics, Radicanto, Gregory Privat, Baptiste Trotignon, Theo Teardo and Valerio Daniele are among the protagonists di Sea Festival 2023, the unique program of the summer in Bari scheduled from Tuesday 11 July to Thursday 9 September promoted by the Puglia Region - Department of Tourism with Pugliapromozione and Teatro Pubblico Pugliese using Por Puglia Fesr-Fse 2014/20 funds - Axis VI action 6.8 - "PP-TPP Puglia schedule - Rediscover the wonder 2023" - in collaboration with the Municipality from Bari.
La sixth edition of Festa del Mare, which was presented to the press during a press conference at Palazzo di Città, brings together two concerts of the Locus Festival (11 July and 1 September), the sixth edition of the Bari Piano Festival (from 22 to 29 August), two concerts of Bari in Jazz (27 July and 7 September) and the Nino Rota Prize (8 and September 9th).
"Festa del Mare was born from the idea of fully experiencing the entire city coast through the valorisation of some places, partly never used before, through culture, art and entertainment - comments Antonio Decaro, mayor of Bari -. Starting from this principle, every year we went to discover new locations which, thanks to the skill and collaboration of local cultural operators and the support of the Puglia Region, have proven to be suggestive and attractive places to host national and international events. From year to year we have continued with experiments and with new, quality proposals, so as to attract increasingly different and increasingly numerous audiences, making Bari one of the symbolic cities of the Apulian summer. Today the Sea Festival is a point of reference in national programming, an important event for the Apulians who remain in our land and a destination for the many tourists who travel also by virtue of the cultural offer that the destination is capable of offering. In this sense I believe that the programming of the Sea Festival, which lasts almost two months, is one of the most attractive and qualified in the area".
“A summer of music, art and the desire to rediscover the wonder of Puglia – reflects Gianfranco Lopane, Councilor for Tourism, Development and Tourism Enterprise of the Puglia Region -. Festa del Mare 2023 is a renewed opportunity for the citizens of Bari, for hospitality operators and for our guests to experience culture and entertainment by experiencing new opportunities for hospitality and fun. This year too, regional programming is yielding extraordinary results thanks to the close synergy between institutions and between public and private sectors. Shared work platforms from which successful events such as Medimex and Batitti Live arose and which today we enrich with the Bari summer programme. The objective is to offer, together with the Municipality of Bari and cultural operators, quality and international events that allow us to promote the identity of our communities by promoting unique experiences in Apulian destinations among scenic beauty, food and wine and traditions. We hope it will truly be a long and unforgettable summer in Puglia."
“It is the first time that the city's summer cultural program offers so many events, many of which are international in scope – highlights Ines Pierucci, Councilor for Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Bari -. Thanks to the trust and support of the Puglia Region, we have once again entrusted the 'artistic direction' of the Sea Festival to local cultural operators, extraordinary and far-sighted professionals who now share a common vision and horizon with our administration. Having chosen to create a series of formats capable of lasting over the years, according to a medium/long-term approach that aims at continuity and growth of skills, allows us today to present you a program with great artists and great shows. This important summer event, now in its sixth edition, was born from the desire to plan events in advance and transforms the city's cultural offering into a program of the highest quality which, on the one hand, makes all the people of Bari aware of the great potential of on the other hand, this territory becomes a tourist driver capable of attracting new international audiences. This result, the result of the vision of the Department of Cultural and Tourist Policies and made possible by a strong synergy with Pugliapromozione and Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, fully pursues the vocation of the city of Bari, which legitimately aspires to a new protagonism on the national cultural and tourist scene and international".
“Festa del Mare confirms how important teamwork between institutions and operators is to create quality cultural events – observes Grazia Di Bari, regional councilor delegated for Culture -. This year's program offers important events which I am sure will meet the tastes of the citizens of Puglia and the numerous tourists who flock to Bari in the summer".
“Festa del Mare is now fully among the most anticipated events of the Apulian summer – declares Paolo Ponzio, president of Teatro Pubblico Pugliese -: a program that offers programming of the highest quality featuring great names on the international scene together with the many talents of our region, thus enriching the impressive Apulian cultural programming and offering the Apulian creativity system an extraordinary possibility of development and consolidation within the national panorama”.
“The Apulian summer is increasingly distinguished by the wide range of shows and musical events that contribute to making the holidays a cultural occasion – says Luca Scandale, general director of Pugliapromozione -. It is with this objective that we continue to work intensely with the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese and with the Municipality of Bari. The Sea Festival, with events of the highest level, will accompany the Bari summer until September, increasingly attractive for national and international tourism ”.
“This year too we have chosen the city of Bari as an important stage for two extraordinary stages of the musical journey of the Locus Festival – explains Vincenzo Bellini, administrator of Bass Culture -. The legendary Norwegian band Sigur Rós will perform in the port of the Apulian capital at the foot of the ancient Bourbon Lighthouse, on the only date in southern Italy. A location that has already proven to be perfect and evocative in summer 2022 by hosting Alt-J with a large audience from Italy and abroad. And then we are really happy to entrust the final concert of the XNUMXth edition of the festival to an authentic icon of the history of world music: Robert Plant, the legendary voice of Led Zeppelin, will present his musical project Saving Grace together with Suzi Dian. The name of Robert Plant is part of a prestigious program of the Locus, which this year too confirms itself as one of the symbols par excellence of summer in Puglia, with a versatile and borderless program that embraces sounds from Italy and the world."
“Festa del Mare marks the return of the large festivals to Bari in a synergistic work between the Region, the municipal administration and us operators, which is putting the capital back at the center of Apulian musical programming – underlines Koblan Amissah Bonaventure, artistic director of Bari in Jazz – the hope is that this synergy will bear ever greater fruit and that the musical programming in Bari will continue to grow year after year”.
“The distinctive feature of this edition of the Bari Piano Festival is elegance, an antidote to a summer register that is always very noisy and sometimes a little too easy – supports Emanuele Arciuli, artistic director of Bari Piano Festival -. The proposals we have chosen have as a common denominator first of all the uncompromising artistic quality of the musicians who are all highly sought after and difficult to listen to in our latitudes. In many cases, in fact, these are absolute debuts or rare presences even on the national territory, such as that of Roger Muraro. And this gives this edition of the Bari Piano Festival a component of preciousness and a substantial musical offering. Alongside this, there is always also attention to other languages such as that of visual art, literature with books, and then the introductions to some concerts by experts and musicologists. And an unusual space left for improvisation with Jed Distler and Thollem McDonas, who will amaze us with their work”.
“The Award continues the investigation into the world of soundtracks – concludes Gianluigi Trevisi, coordinator of the Nino Rota Prize -. Alongside the dutiful homage that will be paid to Rota with the performance by the Metropolitan Orchestra of some scores written for the cinema and almost never performed, this year the recognition is given to an Italian composer unanimously recognized as among the most innovative of the type. Theo Teardo's adventure in cinema, as well as in what he composed for the theatre, represents an advanced approach, very close to international standards where the soundtrack increasingly takes on the ownership of a work that comes alongside not only as a support but also with images have their own life. Even for the second winner of this fifth edition, Valerio Daniele, we find ourselves faced with an approach outside the consolidated canons. The work of this young musician from Salento who composed the music for "Il tempo dei Giganti" has certainly demonstrated an innovative path. A sort of "transfiguration" into music of the landscape scarred by Xylella. A mix of sounds and notes with never predictable solutions, capable of effectively conveying the sense of loss that is enveloping these communities far beyond words".

Thursday September 7st, 21.00 pm, in Piazzetta della Torre in Torre a Mare, i Radicanto present At the roots of singing. The project arises from desire to explore through form"song”, in an authorial and acoustic key, the Mediterranean music. Research, reworking and dedication to popular traditions "lives" from all over the Mediterranean have made Radicanto, over the last decade, one of the most interesting musical realities in Italy. The project proposes a anything but philological approach to the forms of world music, based rather on the suggestions it arouses in today's listening, enriched with contemporary influences and sounds. The sensitivity of mmusicians coming from different musical traditions, gives life to an unconventional interpretation of songs of love and motherhood, of struggle and freedom, of faith and ritual. The voice is the imaginary bridge that unites not only the different musical traditions, but also the poetry that crosses them. Radicanto, in their artistic career, boast collaborations with some of the greatest exponents of traditional music, ancient music but also authorial and jazz, both in cinematographic and live and recording contexts (Teresa De Sio, Raiz, Lucilla Galeazzi, Roberto Saviano).
