Arezzo, the chestnut and DOP brown festival is back.

He turns 52 the chestnut and chestnut festival of Caprese Michelangelo (Arezzo), event that celebrates the typical fruit of the autumn tradition of Tiber Valley and which will take place over the two weekends of 15-16 and 22-23 October.

The chestnut festival combines food and wine with the beauty of the area, but also with history and art. Caprese Michelangelo it is in fact the city that gave birth to Michelangelo Buonarroti. I am happy that the festival had our patronage for the first time this year".

 

It was a reminder of how the chestnut has always been an important food and economic resource for the rural populations of the valley the mayor of CapreseClaudio Baroni. "In the village we have a very strong chestnut-growing tradition" - he said - "Each family has at least one plot of land cultivated with chestnuts which has been used since the Middle Ages to make flours and classic desserts, such as baldino, but is also exported through national and international sales channels. And we are honored that brown also has the Dop mark, which makes the difference".

 

In the historic center of the town there will be food stands, created by the town's associations, where you can taste typical chestnut-based dishes, together with other products from the area. But the festival will also be an opportunity to get to know the area, as he recalled the councilor for culture of CapreseIlaria Finocchi, from Birthplace Museum of Michelangelo Buonarroti, to take a mountain bike ride and visit the places of walk di Saint Francis, like the hermitage of Casella, the church of Zenzano e the church of San Paolo.

 

New features of this year's programme, illustrated by the president Mauro Fiorucci and Maria Teresa Baroni, president and member of the committee respectively Chestnut and DOP chestnut festival from Caprese Michelangelo, will be the chestnut prize organized by the Michelangelo Sports Center, Sunday 16 October, and the cooking show “Brown in celebration”, an 'agrischallenge' in the kitchen that will involve the mayors of the Tiber Valley, Sunday 23 October.

 

Also scheduled for Sunday afternoon is a traveling performance by Kapresani in chorus, whose representatives, Quinto Romolini e Stefania Cangi, on the sidelines of this morning's press conference, received from vice-president of the Regional Council Marco Casucci the wooden crest representing the Banner of Tuscany. The Kapresani they were in fact the only choir of the Toscana to have performed at International Festival of Alta Pusteria, in which 73 choirs from all over the world participated.
