Arezzo: The Mental Health Festival is open, events continue until February 24th

Among the many guests: the psychiatrists Vittorino Andreoli and Paolo Milone, the singer-songwriter Lorenzo Baglioni, the director Susanna Nicchiarelli and the playwright and narrator Stefano Massini.

With the round table “Proof of the future. Adolescents, families and community services" The first Mental Health Festival opened in Arezzo. The start this morning in the Hall of the Greats of the Library of the Pionta university campus. School managers, ASL psychologists, teachers from the University of Siena and representatives of local services discussed strategies for preventing adolescent distress and the prospects for intervention in the school and extra-curricular context.

The event was organized by the South East Tuscany Local Health Authority, the Municipality of Arezzo and the University of Siena. Present were the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Arezzo Lucia Tanti, who brought the greetings of the municipal administration. At the beginning, the greeting from the Rector Roberto Di Pietra was read. Professor Simona Micali and doctor Susanna Giaccherini, South East Tuscany Local Health Authority, introduced the works and numerous interventions.

The activities continued in the afternoon with the round table on the issues of disability, ableist discrimination and normative views on the bodies of people with disabilities. And with the workshops, at the IV Novembre middle school, organized by the USLToscana sud est company - Family Funds Project, Arezzo area - PIPPI Program, Social Cooperative.

In the evening, the “Miss Marx” screening took place at the Eden Multiplex; large influx of public for the conversation about the film with the director Susanna Nicchiarelli and the philosopher Mariangela Priarolo.
The events will now continue throughout the week with over thirty initiatives including: meetings with writers and artists, cultural initiatives, shows, exhibitions, screenings, workshops, guided tours, a basketball triangular and a competition with schools.

The psychiatrists Vittorino Andreoli and Paolo Milone, the singer-songwriter and performer Lorenzo Baglioni and many other prominent guests will also participate in the meetings.

Sold out for the initiative with the playwright and narrator Stefano Massini who will participate on February 21st in the "IV Pirella Lesson" on the theme “Telling the madness”, dedicated to the figure of Agostino Pirella, "humanist psychiatrist" and director of the psychiatric hospital of Arezzo. Places are already sold out also for the guided walk around the former psychiatric hospital organized by the “Franco Basaglia. Reservations will be reopened in case of cancellations.

The extensive program continues in the following days.

“Every mind counts. Inclusion, work, sport, independent life" is the title of the round table that will be held on February 21st at 15 pm at the historic building in via Pellicceria 23. Participants will be: Agazzi Foundation; Coob Consortium, Pio Borri Association 73 odv, TMA – Caputo-Ippolito method.

Also on February 21st, at 19 pm, MeTe will be held – Show of dance, theatre, improvisation, research, therapy, human communion organized by APID Toscana – MaLaChiTe Company, directed by Chiara Unisoni. The event will be held at the Pietro Aretino Theater, via della Bicchieraia 26.

The appointments continue on February 22nd.

At 9 the meeting "The mental hospital memory: compared research and experiences", organized by Silvia Calamai and Rosalba Nodari, will be held in the Sala dei Grandi of the Pionta Campus library. Scholars from different regions of Italy will participate.

At 10.30 at the Liceo Petrarca, the lectio magistralis by Francesco Cattaneo, professor of Aesthetics at the University of Bologna, will be held, “The sufferings of the woman giving birth. Nietzsche, aesthetics, illness”. Event organized by professor Simone Zacchini of the University of Siena.

And at 17pm at the Feltrinelli Point Arezzo bookshop (via Garibaldi 107) there will be a meeting with the writer Pietro Grossi “Entropy and creativity. Flow: the least known and most effective device of the human mind”. Grossi has won some of the most important Italian literary prizes, including the Campiello Europa Prize, the Piero Chiara Prize and the Elsa Morante Island of Procida Prize.

At 18.30 “Sick with beauty” will be held. Schumann, Nietzsche, Hölderlin, poetry and music on the threshold of madness”, appointment at the Sala Vasariana, Piazza del Praticino 6. A show of music and philosophy by Francesco Cattaneo, Alessandro Tricomi, Simone Zacchini; with the participation of the students of the Liceo Petrarca and the readers of the TeenLaAV club.

The activities will continue in the following days with many other meetings, including those on February 23rd with the psychiatrist Paolo Milone, and the meeting of the singer-songwriter and performer Lorenzo Baglioni with the school students. And more: theater performances, theatrical shows, guided tours, video games, even a basketball triangular and exhibitions, until February 24th.

Free admission Friday February 23 for the meeting with the psychiatrist Vittorino Andreoli. The initiative, curated by the University of Siena and the Feltrinelli Bookshop, it will open at 17.30 pm at the Sala Borsa Merci in Piazza Risorgimento. World-famous psychiatrist Andreoli firmly opposes the Lombrosian conception of crime according to which the crime was necessarily committed by a mentally ill person, and supports the compatibility of normality with the most brutal murders. He is the author of books ranging from medicine to literature to poetry, he has created television programs dedicated to adolescents, elderly people and the family.

During the days of the festival, the video installation will be open to visitors at the Donne building on the Ponta Campus (viale Cittadini 33). “The smoking room”. While the exhibition will be held at the historic building in via Pellicceria 23 “Imaginations”, with the works created by Federica Mauro, an artist with disabilities who created the logo of the Mental Health Festival.
