Arezzo, a thousand new plants thanks to Estra
The forestation intervention which affected the Meridiana district and the hamlet of Quarata was completed with the aim of increasing and redeveloping the urban greenery
Arezzo, a thousand new plants thanks to Estra.

planted 1000 new plants in the municipal area thanks to the support of Stra. The project falls within Green Mosaic, the national campaign for forestation of urban and extra-urban areas and protection of forests conceived and promoted by Zero CO2 e Legambiente.
The meeting that sealed the conclusion of the work was attended by the general director of Estra Paolo Abati, together with the councilor for public works, maintenance, urban decoration of the Municipality of Arezzo Alessandro Casi and Nicola Merciari commercial manager of the sustainability area of AzzeroCO2.
The forestation intervention was of interest two areas of the municipal territory for a total surface area of approximately two hectares. The first is in the hamlet of Quarata, one of the most important medieval centers on the outskirts of Arezzo, which from beyond For 40 years it has been the site of extensive gravel mining activities. Objective of the intervention within the “Cave Triangle”, of which Quarata is part, together with the hamlets
di Patrignone e Campoluci, is that of an environmental regeneration of the territory through the restoration of tree cover and the increase in local biodiversity for the purpose of improvement also the landscape aspect.
The second is located in the residential neighborhood Sundial, characterized by intense vehicular traffic and for which an intervention was necessary aimed at creating, thanks to the planting of new plants, a sound-absorbing barrier in order to mitigate noise perceived by the resident population.
"This administration – noted the councilor Alessandro Casi - sends a further important message in the name of urban redevelopment and respect for the environment. We are spurred by the desire to achieve the objectives we have set for ourselves in a dual direction: the first is that of sustainable mobility, which must not only be an intent put in black and white, although the implementation of each individual project is important, but a real 'cultural revolution' that starts from the bottom. And it is no coincidence that we are involving the schools right from the youngest pupils, encouraged thanks to the language of the game to prefer cycling or walking with their parents to get to class.
The second leg of this scaffold is the environmental policies in a more traditional sense. A 'green' city it is more beautiful to look at, healthier and more livable. La Meridiana and Arezzo in general deserve this leap in quality and widespread improvement.
But with Green Mosaic, a project for which I thank the partners Estra and AzzeroCO2, we cross the same city perimeter to reach a hamlet chosen not by chance. Speak for Quarata, for once, of new natural habitats and not the extraction of inert materials, I believe it has a particular significance".
It will also be relevant function that plants planted in total they will have in the mitigation of air pollution, trees are in fact among the most powerful "technologies" that humanity has for absorbing carbon dioxide and other pollutants, and in improving the usability of the affected areas by citizens, especially in the summer period thanks to the presence of a covering arborea which will help mitigate high temperatures and the heat island effect.
A project therefore from'high environmental and eco-systemic value for the city of Arezzo which will also contribute to the creation of favorable habitats to host the small mammal fauna and avifauna that will be able to find shelter and food there. The 1000 plants planted belong to native tree and shrub species suitable for the climatic conditions of the area, including the plane tree, the lesser elm, the field maple, the downy oak, the Judas tree, the dogwood, the blackthorn and the privet.
"We are living in an extremely complex historical moment in which the issues of energy and sustainability have become crucial - he stressed Saura Saccenti sustainability manager of Stra - for this reason it is more necessary than ever for everyone to do their part. Estra has always combined the energy marketing with concrete commitment towards conscious use, the promotion of renewables, energy efficiency and any other initiative that goes in the direction of reducing emissions.
Planting a new tree is a investment to look to the future and those who opt for an offer that cuts emissions and simultaneously reduces consumption make a precise choice and, in effect, make their own contribution. Last year new plants were placed in the territory of Civitella and this time it's the turn of Arezzo, a city that has always paid attention to greenery and the environment, not only in the traditional central areas but also in newly expanding areas like the one we are in today".
The campaign Green Mosaic is part of the broader one European LIFE Earth project which aims to mitigate the effects of climate change through the planting of 500 million trees by the end of 2025. An extremely ambitious project of which Legambiente is the only Italian partner and Zero CO2 supporter.
