Andrea Pennacchi in “A small Odyssey” at La Spezia Estate Festival.

The event poster La Spezia Summer Festival 2023 continues on Monday 31 July in Piazza Europa (21.30 pm) with Andrew Pennacchi, author and performer of “A little Odyssey”.

A theater artist since 1993, Pennacchi began his journey with the Teatro Popolare di Ricerca of Padua. He is known to television audiences as “The Buzzard”, named after the character in the program Live propaganda su LA7, where he is often a guest. For cinema, he worked with Andrea Segre, Carlo Mazzacurati, Silvio Soldini. He is the sidekick of Paola cortellesi in Petra, a Sky series released in September 2020.

He won the Silver Ribbon in the section Major Series 2023 including “Best Supporting Actor” for his extraordinary performance in “Everything asks for salvation”, Netflix's revelation series.

Pennacchi writes in the show notes: “I came into possession of a copy of the Odyssey quite early on: when I was in middle school, my father ran the book stand at the Unity festival in my neighborhood, while my mother reigned supreme over the steaming kitchens. The rain had damaged a prose version by Garzanti, and my dad gave it to me. There was no difference, for me, between Tolkien and Homer, it was a great story, or rather a story of stories, in which I had no difficulty recognizing the people I loved: my father returning from the concentration camp, my mother waiting, defending themselves from invaders, mourning, joy. And I've always wanted to tell it. The Odyssey has been defined as: 'a tale of tales', a majestic cathedral of tales and storytellers, crossed by references to other stories, myths, in a dense network designed to capture the reader. The very fact that it is admirably constructed for reading, however, makes it difficult to tell in the theatre, rich as it is. We decided to restore the flavor of an oral story by proposing a multi-voiced version, which also gives the right weight to the rich female component and to the actual return".

Tickets are on sale at the Teatro Civico Box Office (entrance from via Carpenino), open from Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 12.30pm (on Wednesdays also from 16pm to 19pm).
