Councilor Biondi: "Great opportunity to promote the territory and economic benefits for related industries".
Ancona, 8 matches of the 2023 men's European volleyball championships in September.
After 52 years, Ancona returns to host an international sporting event such as the 2023 European Men's Volleyball Championships from 3 to 6 September. Eight matches will be played at the PalaRossini, including two for Italy, which will face Switzerland on 4 September at 21pm and Germany on 6 September, again at 21pm. There will be 25 cameras focused on the pitch, 150 countries connected and the matches will be broadcast live on Raisport and on Skysport for season ticket holders.
Today during a press conference at Palazzo Raffaello, headquarters of the Marche Region, the event was officially presented in a stage of the EuroVolley Tour which thus concludes its appointments in Ancona, after the first on 3 and 4 June which allowed the boys from Osimo, Jesi and Ancona to take a photo with the cup and the workshop on the topic of the economic impact of a major sporting event on the area, which took place on 18 July at the Conero Golf Club in Sirolo. Special guest at the meeting with journalists Lorenzo Bernardi, Ambassador Eurovolley 2023 decreed best volleyball player of the XNUMXth century by the FIVB. Also in the room are the young promises of Junors Ancona and Play Volley Baba Ancona.
“We believe a lot – explained the Sports councilor Chiara Biondi – in this one-of-a-kind event: for the first time an event as important as the European Volleyball Championships, both men's and women's categories, involves nine Italian cities including our capital. Sport is first and foremost synonymous with fun, well-being, education, transmission of values, but also with the promotion of our splendid territory. The expected effects are great for the entire industry and we are sure that the investment will bear fruit. A study carried out revealed that for every euro invested, around six return. In this case sport therefore helps us to promote our region. There will be many people who will arrive: not only the teams and their staff but also the players' families and supporters who will have the opportunity to get to know our wonderful Marche region".
“I thank the Marche Region – continued the mayor of Ancona Daniele Silvetti – which places the regional capital at the center with this opportunity which we will be able to use in the best possible way to promote an area that has so much potential. The event will also coincide with the Sea Festival, an anniversary to which the city is particularly linked and which will certainly make those who discover us for the first time appreciate our characteristics and uniqueness even more. The hope is to change the perception of this city. In this context we are therefore strongly interested in the development of sports tourism: we have all the requirements to do so and we are working on this."
“For about 30 years – underlined Bernardi – we have been at the top of the world with our movement, at all levels, from youth to the first team, men's and women's. Last year was extraordinary, crowned by numerous victories including the men's World Championship and we are the holders of both the women's and men's European Championships. The Marche region has a great volleyball tradition, with numerous men and women players who have worn the national team jersey. We remind you that the coach of the women's national team, Davide Mazzanti, is from the Marche region. Looking at the men's European Championships, Italy can aspire to victory, we play at home and we are among the favourites. It is a very young team, which has made a generational change and has already won a lot in less than 12 months, a World Cup and a European Championship. It still has growth prospects; he will fight with France, Poland, Slovenia".
“Hosting the first phase of the European Championship in Ancona – added Fabio Franchini, president of FIPAV Marche – means rewarding our entire movement, made up of young athletes who practice and grow with this sport. In September they will be able to see the great athletes at the PalaPrometeo Rossini and we will be at the center of the world. On our part, we are fully committed to welcoming the national teams, the delegations and all those who will fill the arena in the best possible way. For some weeks we have had requests for ticket reservations, many of which have arrived from Estonia".
“An event like this is extremely important because sport is the basis of the promotion of the territory and tourism – concluded ATIM director Marco Bruschini -. We will have teams arriving from other countries, some of which are particularly interesting for us: people who can become ambassadors and testimonials of our territory. The promotional campaign recently inaugurated with the slogan and commercial Let's Marche starring another great sportsman, our testimonial, the coach of the national football team Roberto Mancini, also goes in this direction. In short, the Marche region confirms itself as a land of great champions."
