Agrigento, Valley of the Temples: inauguration of the first "Sensory Garden" in a UNESCO site
A green area of two thousand square meters, inside the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, a few steps from the Temple of Concordia, to allow exploration and complete knowledge of the places through the use of the five senses. And the “Sensory Garden”, which will be inaugurated on Thursday 14 December at 11 am in the archaeological park of Agrigento, Case Paci, via Sacra.
A small Eden also designed and created for visitors with disabilities. Both the panel at the entrance and the various information points in the garden, in fact, feature images in relief, each text is in Italian, English and Braille. A hand strap "intelligent" and a tactile path also help the visually impaired in the visit.
The project, financed by the Ministry of Culture and co-financed by the Sicilian Region, through the Department of Cultural Heritage, is part of a broader program called “#SmartEducationUnescoSicilia – Five senses for seven sites”. The objective is to create, for the first time in Sicily, a synergy between the seven UNESCO sites present on the island, improving their accessibility and knowledge, especially among a young audience, through a website and a dedicated app , capable of identifying the individual interests of users.
The councilor will be present at the inauguration Cultural heritage Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, the general manager of the regional department of cultural heritage Mario La Rocca, the director of the archaeological park of the Valley of the Temples Roberto Sciarratta, the curator of the project Giada Cantamessa, the director of the works of the garden Calogero Alaimo Diloro and the contact person of the UNESCO office of the Ministry of Culture Silvia Patrignani.
