The investigations started from checks on the distribution of medicines in pharmacies in the province of Latina, highlighting a abuse in the prescription of a drug based on pregabalin, active ingredient used as anxiolytic and anticonvulsant.
Although generally safe, the drug can cause exciting and harmful effects if taken with alcohol.

Thanks to traditional investigative methods - including photographic reconnaissance, observations, shadowing and video and documentary acquisitions - and at reports from pharmacists, the Carabinieri have identified the two suspects. They used stolen prescriptions and medical stamps to emit false prescriptions and get the medicine paid by the National Health System (NHS).

Connections to an investigation into aggravated theft
