Aprilia: 8 arrests for mafia and extortion, two companies seized in Latina.

The morning of the 12 February 2025, in the cities of Latina, Aprilia (LT), Turin, Syracuse, Salerno and Lecce, the Carabinieri of the Territorial Department of Aprilia, Together with DIA Operations Center of Rome, with the support of the territorial commands, carried out aprecautionary custody order issued by GIP of the Court of Rome towards eight peopleSix of those arrested were taken to prison, while two are under house arrest.

The defendants are seriously suspected, to varying degrees, of mafia-type criminal association, extortion, Wear, illegal possession and carrying of weapons, fictitious company registration e company shareholdings.

An investigation launched in 2021

The operation is the result of a detailed investigation conducted between the 2021 and 2024 under the coordination of DDA of the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office. This is the natural continuation of an investigative activity which culminated in the operations of the July 3th, 2024, which led to the Appointment of the Prefectural Commissioner for the Municipality of Aprilia andinvestigation by the Commission of Inquiry to check for possible mafia infiltration.

Investigators have collected circumstantial evidence which document:

• La operational continuity of the criminal group between Aprilia and Latina, also highlighted by the discovery of explosive devices placed at the expense of a transport company.
• La internal structuring of the organization, which included:
  • The concealment of illicit profits through the use of nominees for the management of two companies, active in the sector of catering and plastic profiles, Based in Latina and Aprilia. The companies have been subjected to preventive seizure for subsequent confiscation.
  • Financing legal defense of members already affected by judicial measures.

The figure of the fugitive promoter

At the top of the criminal organization the role of a fugitive affiliated with a 'ndrangheta gang from the Reggio Calabria district. This was joined by other prominent members, already recipients of precautionary custody orders in prison, where they are still being held prisoner.

In parallel, the following were carried out: numerous searches at the homes of the suspects, while the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Latina, Together with Flying Squad of the Latina Police Headquarters, has seized the two companies linked to those arrested.

The investigation is still in the preliminary phase. preliminary investigations, therefore the following applies to all those under investigation principle of presumption of innocence until any final sentence.
