La State Police arrested a Ventimiglia un Turkish citizen, Owner of French residence permit, sought after internationally by Turkish authorities for terrorism-related crimes.

The man, a member of a terrorist organization, was identified during a police check on the Roja seafront.

The arrest took place last week, when a patrol of the Crime Prevention Department, aggregated at the Public Safety Commissioner of Ventimiglia, has subjected to verification a BMW with French license plate with four Turkish citizens on board.

From the database checks, carried out with the support of the judicial police of the police station, it emerged that one of the passengers was subject of an international arrest warrant for extradition purposes.

Through immediate contact with the Interpol Division of Central Criminal Police Directorate, the identity of the subject and the nature of the measure against him have been confirmed.

The Turkish citizen was in fact wanted by the Ankara authorities for kidnapping, imprisonment and terrorism-related crimes, having a final sentence of 8 years and 9 months of imprisonment.

Having acquired all the necessary information and documentation, the man was arrested at the disposal of Attorney General's Office at the Court of Appeal of Genoa and Public Prosecutor's Office of Imperia, and transferred to the Sanremo prison awaiting extradition proceedings.

The operation falls within the scope of the activities of international police cooperation and confirms the effectiveness of the cross-border controls carried out daily by State Police officers in Ventimiglia, a strategic crossroads between Italy and France.
