Diano San Pietro: Specialized in defrauding the elderly with the “fake Carabiniere/Lawyer” technique. Another 2 scammers arrested by the Carabinieri on the move

Continued by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Imperia the action of prevention and repression of crimes against the weaker sections of the population and in particular against the scams against the elderly, in recent times increasingly victims of underhanded scams perpetrated with what is now known in jargon as the fraud "of the fake Carabiniere" or "of the fake lawyer"

This time too, however, the Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of Imperia, in collaboration with the Diano Marina Station, arrested a criminal in flagrante delicto 54enne and a 41 year old from Naples held responsible in complicity of attempted aggravated fraud against a 66 year old woman from Diano San Pietro.

As had already happened in similar circumstances, during the morning the 112 NUE of the Provincial Command of Imperia received a phone call from a very worried lady who reported that she had just been contacted by a person who, identifying himself as a Carabiniere, had informed that her son had been arrested following a serious road accident and that therefore it was necessary to pay a deposit of well €12.000 in cash to be delivered to two collaborators of the lawyer in charge of the son's defense, who would soon reach her at her home.

Once the lady was reassured that her son had not caused any road accident, nor had he been arrested, thanks to the skill of the switchboard operator, a civilian service was immediately alerted and quickly reached the small village of Diano San Pietro and waited for any suspects to arrive.

After a few minutes, a white Jeep Renegade arrived with two individuals on board who, once they got out, approached the entrance of the victim's home.

We stopped at the door and found that they were absolutely not trainees at some law firm, but rather two known criminals from Naples, a summary search allowed them to find the phones with which the two suspects had contacted the victim during the morning.

The two men were then taken to the barracks and taken into custody. Arrest in flagrante for attempted aggravated fraud, given their numerous criminal records for crimes of the same nature.

After the formal procedures, the arrested were associated with the Imperia Prison, at the disposal of the Judicial Authority and now risk more 5 years in prison.
