Healthcare Oscar 2022, first prize to Humanitas.
Are the'Humanitas by Milano, the Alessandria Hospital and the Careggi University Hospital of Florence to win the podium at the 2022 Healthcare Oscars. The 'Lean Healthcare and Lifescience Award 2022', now in its fifth edition, has seen competition 206 projects, presented by 92 public and private social and healthcare companies. The aim of the competition is to reward institutions that stand out for the application of the 'Lean' method, aimed at improving patient conditions, eliminating waste of resources and disorganization in the care path.
THEHumanitas by Milano with his 'Lean-patient in pre-admission' wins Lean Healthcare Award 2022, thus conquering the first prize reserved for projects carried out in the last two years which have already produced results measured through the Key Performance Indicators. At the heart of the winning program is the optimization of the path prior to hospitalization, which reduces waiting times and improves patient satisfaction. Second place went to the Alessandria Hospital with 'Home early and well', a plan to streamline the hospitalization period which reduces hospitalization times. And third place forCareggi University Hospital of Florence, Thanks to work on the clinical-care path of nephropathic patients.
The best design idea goes to the Tor Vergata Polyclinic in Rome for its 'Care continuity paths for chronic conditions: experimentation of an outpatient model', in sclose integration with family doctors and for better management of elderly patients. Second place is the ASL of Foggia with 'Free Health: penitentiary telemedicine, a project that tends to eliminate waste in the process of providing specialist visits and some examinations of prisoners. And third place for the Policlinico Umberto I of Rome with 'The emo-feel team' aimed at haemophilia patients.
The Tumor Institute of Milano is awarded for the most innovative project, the Policlinico Gemelli of Rome for the most complex one and the Fondazione Poliassociazione di Brescia for the best results achieved.
In Special Awards category, the AO San Giovanni Addolorata of Rome wins the 'Value Based Healthcare' which promotes those who maximize the relationship between the outcome of treatment and the expenditure incurred, while the 'Lean Company' of the year is the Pisan University Hospital. Finally, the ULSS 8 Berica of Vicenza conquer the 'Lean for Social and Health Integration, under the activities carried out by the Observatory for socio-health integration promoted by Agenas, Federsanità and Anci.
Project contents
The topics covered by the health system experts vary from the reorganization of the inter-company transplant center to the rapid response in offering endoscopy tests, to the creation of new pathways for local assistance. They range from the hemophiliac patient with his often obstacle course, to penitentiary telemedicine which would avoid significant travel and costs for its functioning. And again: a new algorithm for planning onco-hematology patients; the creation of a company network for abdominal surgery and oncology televisitation to avoid unnecessary travel for seriously ill patients.
The numbers of the 2022 Award
The 92 competing social and health companies, with their 206 projects, are distributed across almost the entire peninsula. One is confirmed growth in participation for Sicily, Sardinia and Puglia. Calabria competed for the first time. All the regions of Northern and Central Italy are always very present.
