Syracuse, the "Light in the sea" exhibition extended.
It has been extended until December 15th photographic exhibition "The light in sea"of Emanuele Vitale at the former Retreat convent in via Mirabella in Syracuse. Inaugurated on November 25th and equipped with a graphically well-produced catalogue, the event is characterized in an original way by being the fulcrum of a series of collateral events that are attracting a diversified audience, with a strong participation of schools, for an expanded reflection on art
in general along three main lines: literature and books, meetings with other artists, places of the heart.
A recurring theme is, of course, the sea because it is to this environment that Vitale, an expert diver and engaged in an intense dissemination activity, he turns his attention making it the center of the his artistic research and other activities. An essential element for Syracuse, we find the sea again also in the two meetings held this week: that of December 6th, at 17pm, during which Fausto Migneco, professor of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences, proposed a reflection on "The sea and Saint Lucia“; and that of December 7th "Plemmirio marine protected area, history and prospects" with a report by its vice president, Marco Mastriani.
This week's meetings will close next Friday (December 9): the councilor to Culture, Fabio Granata, will speak on "The legacy of Syracuse Capital of Culture 2024” starting from the fact that Vitale's exhibition was conceived precisely as part of the candidacy. All meetings are held at the former retreat convent.
Edited by Enzo Marano, the exhibition collects 35 shots - mainly underwater and with participation of models – which were divided into eight topics: The light in the sea (which gives its name to the event), Ascetic, In & Yang, Anapo and Ciane, Woman's legs, Reflections, How they are born jellyfish and, finally, Plastic which is a complaint against pollution. Inserting himself into the genre of conceptual art, Vitale enhances the beauty and suggestions of the sea but at the same time "invites – we read in the catalog – to reflection, wisdom, mutual respect, the protection of nature with
belief that the miracle of hope can only start from us." If for the mayor, Francesco Italia, “there is no place better than SIRACUSA for a Syracusan artist who seeks inspiration in the sea“, for theGranata councilor the exhibition represents “a testimony of active citizenship and for this reason the we host in one of the prestigious exhibition spaces".
The initiative was sponsored by Common, By “Luigi Einaudi” and “Antonello Gagini”, from Noi Albergatori Siracusa and from the Siracusa diving club.
