Milano, the exhibition “Robert Capa. In history".
On the occasion of the 110 years since the birth of Robert Capa (October 22, 1913), Mudec pays homage to the great Hungarian photographer with a personal exhibition that retraces the main war and travel reportages that Capa created during his twenty-year career, years that coincided with the crucial moments in the history of the twentieth century.
The exhibition “Robert Capa. In History”, at Mudec Photo from November 11, 2022 to March 19, 2023, is produced by 24 ORE Cultura - 24 ORE Group, promoted by City of Milano-Culture and edited by Sara Rizzo.
Made thanks to the collaboration withMagnum Photos agency, the exhibition – curated specifically for Mudec – brings together over 80 photographic prints, some of which have never been exhibited before in an Italian exhibition, accompanied by a rare interview given by the photojournalist to an American radio in 1947 and by some period documents from the Magnum collection.
Robert Capa, born Endre Friedmann (1913-1954) was only 25 years old when he was defined by “Picture Post” “ithe greatest war photojournalist in the world“: it is the birth of a legend and a completely new way of doing photojournalism. Through his black and white portraits and his war and travel reports, he made the world aware not only of the horrors and miseries of the many armed conflicts that characterized the last century and the faces of the men and women who made the history of that period, but also the daily life of ordinary people, from one part of the globe to the other.
Through seven sections, the exhibition presents the most important black and white reportages created by Robert Capa, from the beginning to Berlin e Paris (1932-1936) to Spanish Civil War (1936-1939); fromJapanese invasion of China (1938) to Second Word War (1941-1945); from the travel report in the Soviet Union (1947) to the one on the birth of Israel (1948-1950), untillast assignment as war photographer in Indochina (1954), where Cover will find death.
