Orbetello (Grosseto): Forestry Carabinieri recover a “Trachemys Scripta Scripta” turtle.

The Carabinieri of the Orbetello Forestry Unit intervened on the Feniglia beach, where a private citizen had reported the presence of a turtle.

The Forestry Carabinieri actually found and recovered the specimen, a turtle "Trachemys Scripta Scripta", better known as the "American pond turtle".

It is an adult female specimen weighing 1,700 kg and approximately 20 cm wide, probably held irregularly by someone, who may then have abandoned it on the beach.

On this point, further investigations are underway in order to trace the perpetrators of the crime.

The military, who during the recovery phases of the animal used all the necessary precautions to handle the specimen safely, are carrying out the procedures for its entrustment to the Seized Animal Recovery Center of the Carabinieri biodiversity department Carabinieri Forestale of Fogliano (LT), as the turtle is included in the invasive exotic species.
