Grosseto, “Fiume Ombrone” is the new awareness campaign of the Civil Protection: to inform the population on the behavior to follow in case of river flooding.
This morning, the City Council Hall hosted the presentation of the new awareness campaign, designed by the Civil Protection service of the Municipality of Grosseto, created to raise awareness and inform citizens, as well as promote good conduct, in case of risk of flooding of the Ombrone River.
For this purpose, the Municipal Civil Protection service has created, thanks to the help of the economic operator expert in graphics and communication CTP2000 of Grosseto, some paper and web information material.
The booklet, present on all the official social channels of the Public Administration, highlights, in an easy and immediate way, a dangerous scenario represented by the "breaking of the banks" of the River.
In the event of an emergency, the Civil Protection Plan identifies two types of areas: the so-called "waiting areas", where the population can gather in the event of an alarm, and the "shelter areas", to be understood as covered and equipped structures capable of to host people.
The information leaflet is also graphically organized with the communication and alert methods according to the regional system which provides, based on the severity of the estimated or predicted weather event, alarms with different colors starting from green (normality), yellow (vigilance phase) , orange (attention phase) and finally red (pre-alarm phase).
Finally, the Civil Protection analysis reports a few simple indications of behavior that the population must follow in the six phases according to the "Flood Service".
The booklet divided into several sides includes a specific cartography indicating the perimeter of the "red zone", with relative explanatory legend, in addition to all the active social contacts, the contact details of the Civil Protection Service of our institution and the two Apps (Cittadino Informato or Informabene) to alert citizens.
“I thank the Municipal Civil Protection for the great sensitivity it continues to demonstrate – comments Mayor Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna – I will never stop remembering how important the daily work of volunteers is. We have seen it in the past and we still see it today, precisely in these days with the drama that has hit Emilia-Romagna".
“The campaign was born from a process undertaken with the offices – comments the Civil Protection councilor, Riccardo Megale – The objective is not to frighten citizens or exasperate a dangerous situation, but to inform. The Ombrone has always represented an important resource for a tourist city like ours. This does not mean that it could become dangerous in adverse situations. We must, therefore, simply be aware of it and prepared whenever there is a need for immediate intervention."
The director arch concluded. Domenico Melone and the Civil Protection official Michele Bottai: “A few years ago we launched a new way of conceiving Civil Protection, which in the common imagination is considered only a rescue body. The '92 law identifies 4 Civil Protection activities: prevention, precaution, rescue and reconstruction - they comment - Prevention means knowing the territory, the hypothetical risks and understanding how to intervene. It does not only mean prevention in a structural way, through the construction of new works (dams or other), but also prevention in a non-structural way as in this case: by informing the citizen".
The information material will be distributed in the city's schools and for the activities of the historic center.
