Monfalcone: Joint control operation, 64 people examined and heavy fines imposed

Three stations of the Carabinieri Company of Monfalcone have carried out a joint extraordinary control operation of the territory together with local police personnel, following which a situation emerged that was different from that resulting from the electronic archive of the registry office. In action, 3 agents and 6 soldiers, concentrated on 14 apartments: in the face of 64 people checked the inspection bodies have ascertained that 23 foreigners, despite having maintained their registered residence in this centre, were in fact untraceable, having not been found during the checks; the operations of cancellation from the registry records have therefore been started against them.

During the checks, the presence of 5 people in excess of those regularly residing inside the apartments that were examined from the Police Force: fines of 100,00 (one hundred) euros were therefore imposed for each tenant in excess of those regularly reported. The investigations carried out by the officers, despite the interested parties' attempts to justify themselves, allowed them to ascertain that the presence of the guests was anything but occasional: in the rooms of the houses involved, the officers found personal effects attributable to the people in question.

There were also three irregularities regarding hospitality by private individuals, in violation of the provisions of art. 7 of Legislative Decree 286/1998: this was followed the application of an administrative sanction of 1.000 (one thousand) euros for each omission found. It should be remembered that the referred rule, imposes the obligation for citizens who, in any capacity, provide accommodation or host a foreigner, even if a relative or in-law, to give written notice of this within forty-eight hours to the Local Public Security Authority.

Inside a condominium subject to checks, a twenty-five year old foreigner with a valid residence permit was found in possession of small quantities of "marijuana" and "hashish": the young man was reported to the Prefecture of Gorizia as a user of narcotic substances. The checks in the specific sector, already started in the spring of last year, will continue both in Monfalcone and in the other inhabited centers of the Province in order to maintain constant and effective control of the territory.
