A night of fear and destruction has just passed in the Gorizia area, where a mudslide has overwhelmed a house in Brazzano of Cormons, causing the partial collapse of the building and leaving two people missing. A third person, extracted alive from the rubble by firefighters and by the volunteers of the Civil protection, was transported to the hospital in Udine with a broken leg.
Rescue operations and the race against time
Rescue workers have been working tirelessly since the early hours of the night. In addition to the teams from the Udine and Gorizia command centers, the following were also sent to the scene: river rescuers of Trieste and Pordenone, the Gos regional nucleus (Special Operations Group) with earthmoving equipment, units dog lovers and the team Use (Urban Search and Rescue) from Veneto, specialized in searching for people under rubble.
La Sores Fvg operations center has mobilized multiple ambulances, a medical car, and the air rescue crew to provide immediate assistance. The operations are proving complex due to the amount of mud and debris obstructing the area, but also due to the weather conditions still difficult, with intermittent rain and unstable ground.

The landslide is just one of the consequences of the violent storm that hit Friuli Venezia Giulia in the last few hours. Between Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday, rain accumulations of up to 200 millimeters in the range between Palmanova, Manzano, San Giovanni al Natisone, Cormons and Prepotto.

Serious critical issues are also recorded in the hospital of Palmanova, where the basements are submerged by more than half a meter of waterFirefighters have been busy pumping out the rooms for hours, but there are no reports of any problems for the patients.
The mayor of Cormons, Roberto Felcaro, launched an urgent appeal to citizens: “be very careful when driving because some roads are still flooded and others are full of debris.”
Felcaro also ordered the closure of schools for the day of November 17, “considering the traffic and risk conditions”.
Firefighters' shifts have been increased: over 200 interventions are underway.
To face the emergency, the regional fire brigade command has arranged the doubling of shifts. They arrived at midnight over 200 requests for intervention only at the Udine command, while numerous calls continue to engage the Gorizia command as well.
From Veneto and Emilia-Romagna Specialized flood rescue teams arrived, equipped with high-pumping water pumps to empty the buildings and clear the streets.
Liguria and Tuscany still experiencing bad weather
The disturbance that hit Friuli Venezia Giulia did not spare the rest of Northern Italy.
