Genoa: Railway Police controls strengthened in stations and on board trains. The summer period balance sheet

As every year, during the summer period, the railway police have intensified their surveillance services aimed at combating crimes, in particular those against property, pickpocketing, muggings or thefts of luggage, perpetrated against Italian and foreign tourists who crowd the stations.

As every year, during the summer period, the railway police has intensified surveillance services aimed at combating crimes, in particular those against property, pickpocketing, muggings or thefts of luggage, perpetrated against Italian and foreign tourists who crowd the stations.

The activity of prevention and repression, coordinated by the Compartmental Operations Centre, it was carried out throughout the Ligurian territory jointly by uniformed patrols and the team of Judicial Police of the Polfer Department. In the months of June, July and August the use of 3.607 patrols at the station and 232 on board the train, has allowed the identification of 48.238 people, of whom 19 were arrested and 191 were investigated at large.

Furthermore, 211 people were taken to the Specialty Offices for checks, 17 individuals were reported to the Administrative Authority, 17 were notified of the order to leave the National Territory issued by the Police Chief and 1 was notified of the mandatory expulsion order.

Regarding the people arrested, the tracking and capture of 9 people is highlighted, one of whom was arrested on suspicion of crime for crimes under art. 416 bis (mafia-style criminal association), 2 were held in prison for precautionary measures (one for aggravation of measures in violation of repeated prohibition of residence in the Province of Genoa and one for the crime of sexual violence), 3 subjects received definitive sentences for a total of approximately 2 years and 10 months of imprisonment; against two other people, two European Arrest Warrants were executed, requested by the Spanish and Portuguese Judicial Authorities for the crimes of robbery and sexual violence committed in those countries respectively for total sentences of 5 years and 6 months, while against 1 individual, an International Arrest Warrant was executed, issued by the Georgian authorities for the purpose of extradition to serve 6 years of imprisonment for the crime of fraud.

The other arrests were carried out respectively: 1 for the crime of resisting and assaulting a public official, 1 for possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing, 3 for theft and 2 for robbery.

Furthermore, 3 arrests for violations related to illegal immigration were carried out by the Ventimiglia Railway Police which, as a border crossing point, is particularly involved in issues related to immigration to and from French territory.

The activity of the Railway Police investigators, also aimed at comparing the images from the video surveillance circuits inside the trains and at the railway stations it has also allowed to locate, fully identify and report at liberty 40 individuals responsible for crimes committed on board the train, in stations (platforms, lobbies and others) and in commercial establishments located within the terminals.

Of these, in about half of the episodes, the authors were caught red-handed and it was, therefore, possible to immediately return the stolen goods to their rightful owners.

To underline the investigation activity conducted extremely quickly by the Ventimiglia Polfer Agents who in August, following several reports of loss, identified and reported at large three train cleaners who stole luggage left behind on trains.

During the activity of the Judicial Police, 30,59 grams of cocaine, 59,58 grams of cannabinoids, 3 cutting weapons, 1 improper weapon, 3 documents, 1 counterfeit leather goods and 11 objects of various types were seized.

Furthermore, they were 25 minors traced and then reassigned; another 23 were reported at liberty for various crimes.

The prevention activity against “abnormal behaviour in the FS field”, such as'illegal crossing of the tracks, allowed 65 fines to be issued under the Railway Regulations; 30 administrative fines for failure to comply with prohibitions in general or for being under the influence of alcohol.
