Genoa: transport, 10 million euros of additional resources for local public transport and incentives for the purchase of new buses
The Liguria Region will allocate additional funds to local public transport amounting to 10 million euros. Of these, 6,5 million will go to road transport and the remaining 3,5 to rail transport.
With the final passage in the Regional Council, after those already occurred in the Council and the Council Commission On the proposal of the competent regional councillor Marco Scajola, the distribution of the 6,5 million euros of additional resources destined for road transport was officially approved. This important funding, expected from 2024 and for the next few years, will be added to the 117 million euros that the Region will provide to the Metropolitan City and the Ligurian Provinces.
For the territorial division new percentages will be used resulting from the application of criteria aimed at rebalancing the distribution of resources between the different areas, among these are: the peculiarity of international border territories; the distribution of the resident population as of 1 January 2024 based on the distance from the provincial capital; the differential of historical percentages between extra-urban areas.
«We are going to distribute 10 million euros of additional resources, thus increasing the already very significant support of the Region to all the Ligurian provinces in terms of local public transport – declares theRegional Councillor for Transport Marco Scajola – 3,5 million will be reserved for rail, while another 6,5 will go to rubber. Thanks to these funds, public transport companies operating in Liguria will be able to significantly improve their services for workers, but above all for users. We have also extended, for the two-year period 2025-2026, the possibility of anticipating, as a regional body, 50% of the investments for the purchase of new buses with amounts certified and accounted for by the companies. The regional advance will guarantee greater financial coverage and liquidity to them. With this dual provision we demonstrate the absolute closeness of the Liguria Region to the territories and needs of citizens who travel daily using buses and who deserve a constant increase in the level of service. We trust that we will soon be able to count on further additional resources to be entirely allocated to this purpose».
