Genoa hosts the final stop on the world tour of the training ship Amerigo Vespucci with a grand ceremony in six acts featuring music, images and institutional celebrations: a tribute to the Navy and Italy’s maritime heritage.

GENOVA — La Navy Day 2025 It ended with a memorable evening at GenoVa, which hosted the last, highly anticipated stage of the 2023–2025 World Tour of the Training Ship Amerigo Vespucci, pride of the Italian Navy and a symbol of naval excellence in the world.

An event with a strong symbolic value, celebrated with a ceremony in grand style organized by Inter-ministerial Coordination Committee, established precisely to accompany this extraordinary journey that touched the main ports of the five continents, bringing with it the tricolour and Italian maritime culture.

A ceremony in six acts between music, images and national pride

The suggestive setting for the show Location of Ponte Parodi, where the Vespucci was moored majestically and illuminated, ideally welcoming the thousands of spectators present and the millions connected from home for the live broadcast of the Rai, which broadcast the first part of the evening on Rai1.

The show, divided into six acts, symbolically retraced the stages of the long journey of the symbolic sailing ship, intertwining music, images, storytelling and celebration. The event will be hosted by three well-known faces of Italian television: Antonella Clerici, Serena Autieri e Veronica Maya, who guided the audience through emotions, memories and reflections.

The images shot during the world tour, projected in an immersive scenography, offered a fascinating visual diary of the mission: ports, meetings, symbolic moments and the testimony of the deep bond between Italy and the sea.

The great music of the Armed Forces and the Carlo Felice Theatre

Music was also the absolute star of the evening, thanks to the exceptional performance of Extraordinary Wonderful Orchestra, a one-of-a-kind ensemble composed of 250 musicians from the bands of all the Italian Armed Forces, gathered for the occasion.

Accompanying the orchestra are the voices of the prestigious Chorus of the Carlo Felice Opera House in Genoa, which provided moments of intense emotion with patriotic songs and evocative soundtracks. A harmonious fusion of military spirit, art and culture that thrilled the audience.

The authorities present

Numerous le civil and military authorities who attended the ceremony, testifying to the national importance of the event. Among these, the Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi and Mayor of Genoa and Extraordinary Commissioner for the Waterfront Marco Bucci.

Everyone expressed their pride in the feat accomplished by the Vespucci ship and in the value that it continues to represent: not only an icon of the Navy, but also ambassador of Italian culture, education and talent in the world.

Amerigo Vespucci: the voyage, the history, the myth

The World Tour of the Amerigo Vespucci School Ship, which began in 2023, has touched dozens of international ports in Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. A journey of over 20 months during which the sailing ship welcomed on board authorities, students, sailors, tourists and enthusiasts from all over the planet.

Born in 1931 and still used today for the training of Navy officer cadets, the Vespucci is universally recognized as “the most beautiful ship in the world”. With this tour he has also shown that he is a floating diplomatic platform, capable of promoting Made in Italy, dialogue between cultures and international solidarity.

A goodbye that tastes of pride

The final stage in Genoa symbolically closed an extraordinary chapter in the history of the Italian Navy, but also sent a clear message: Italy continues to navigate with courage, tradition and innovation.

With the sea in its heart and the Vespucci in its myth, Genoa said goodbye to its most beloved ship with an event that will remain engraved in the collective memory.
