Genoa, AIL donates the new Hematology Transplant Center to the San Martino Polyclinic. Nicolò: "Work has already begun, it will be ready in early 2026."

With an investment of €2 million raised thanks to the solidarity of the Genoese people, AIL Genova is fully funding the new hematology department. This is a unique project in Italy that brings together healthcare, volunteering, and innovation.

The renovation works of the second floor of pavilion 6 of the San Martino Polyclinic, where the will rise new Hematology Transplant Center, a work donated entirely by Ail Genova, the Italian Association against Leukemia, active in Liguria for fifty years.

With an investment of about 2 million euro, collected over years of commitment and collective generosity, the project marks a historical precedent: for the first time, a voluntary association does not limit itself to supporting equipment or furnishings, but realizes and donates the entire department, complete with design, works and interior fittings.

The new Transplant Center will be operational in early 2026 and will represent a structure of excellence in the national healthcare landscape.

The department, built with cutting-edge technologies and active antibacterial walls, will guarantee the highest levels of environmental safety and hospitalization standards.

With a total surface area of 790 square meters, the center will have 16 single bedrooms (for a total of 250 m2), each equipped with absolute filters for hospitalization in sterile and protected environments.

In addition to increasing treatment capacity, the facility will allow to consolidate all hematology in a single area of ​​pavilion 6, giving life to a real “Citadel of Hematology”.

Right in this same department, in the 1976, Professor Alberto Marmont performed the first bone marrow transplant of the Polyclinic.
