In fact, on the evening of Tuesday 2 December, the military intervened after, around 16.00, a graduate of the same station, who had arrived near the barracks to begin his service, had heard a cry for help coming from a person sitting on a bench near the Railway stationin Holy Family Square.
As he approached, the soldier surprised a young foreigner and he was despotically tugging at an elderly pensioner to steal some money from him that was kept in his pouch, which later turned out to be a 20 euro banknote.
The stranger was immediately immobilized, also thanks to the rapid intervention of other soldiers who came to help, and was accompanied to the barracks for identification.
The stolen money, found on the person of the foreigner, it was returned to the pensioner, who filed a detailed complaint about the incident.
After the appropriate checks, the man was identified as 41-year-old Ghanaian citizen, resident in Cassino but domiciled in Saint Lucia, with police history. It was then arrested.
By order of the Judicial Authority, the 41-year-old was subjected to AA.DD. at his home, awaiting the validation hearing.
At the same time, in addition to the theft, he was also charged with resisting a public official, having put up unjustified resistance during the escort and identification operations.
The rapid and punctual intervention testifies to the constant surveillance of the territory carried out by the Carabinieri to protect citizens.
