Foggia: railway safety, the “Train…to be cool” campaign arrives
La State Police and the Italian Railway Network meet the students of the primary school "Ungaretti-Madre Teresa di Calcutta Comprehensive Institute" in Manfredonia (FG) at the Foggia train station, to promote the campaign “Train…to be cool".
La awareness campaign of the State Police in synergy with the MIUR, has been involving primary and secondary school students for a decade, with the aim of to stimulate awareness among young people of the risks present in the "railway scenario"“, as well as spreading the knowledge among students culture of legality and safety for one's own and others' safety.
In Foggia, the police officers of the Railway Police Section explained to the kids the basic rules to avoid putting their safety at risk: cross the yellow line at the station, distract yourself by using headphones to listen to music, cross the tracks without using the underpasses, cross the level crossings with the barriers closed or walk close to the embankments. The ones just described may seem like simple rules to follow but, often, young people underestimate the possible consequences. Behaviors that, in some cases, have not spared young lives.
The opportunity offered gave the students the chance to get to know the RFI Cyclic Maintenance Workshop, one of the largest in Italy, and of get on one of the “POP” Regional Fast trains, made available for the occasion at the Foggia Station, where the educational meeting was held.
To date the initiative has achieved over 500 thousand students from all over the Peninsula of which over 6.000, students, in the 2023/2024 school year in the three Regions under the jurisdiction of the Railway Police Department of Apulia, Basilicata and Molise, out of a total of 63 Educational Institutions.
