The war is turning into an increasingly complex and difficult to manage conflict, with repercussions that extend far beyond the borders of the two countries involved.

Ukraine, Russian missiles on Kiev, intensification of the conflict. Extreme tension.

Forces Russians launched a devastating attack against the Kiev region using a North Korean-made missile, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old man and his four-year-old son. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced the attack as a deliberate terrorist act, underlining the seriousness of the threat looming over the entire Ukrainian territory since the beginning of the war. Zelensky reiterated the urgent need for strengthening Ukrainian air defenses, calling on international partners to provide solutions that eliminate restrictions imposed on Ukraine's defense capabilities. According to the president, only when Ukraine is able to operate without limitations will the war be able to come closer to its end.

During the same night, Kiev was hit by other explosions in its central and eastern area. Military authorities reported that the explosions were caused by the launch of two Russian missiles, which injured three people. Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the military administration of the Kiev region, confirmed that the air strike lasted almost eight hours, during which Ukrainian air defense forces shot down several enemy targets, including drones targeting the capital. Despite the effective response of Ukrainian defenses, the attack still caused casualties and injuries, highlighting the country's continued vulnerability to Russian attacks.

In the meantime, the situation in Russia's Kursk region is equally tense. In response to a Ukrainian incursion, the Russian military launched a series of attacks against Ukrainian forces located near the border. A Russian Su-25 fighter struck Ukrainian positions with unguided air-to-air missiles, while Ka-52 helicopters and T-72B3M tanks participated in the ground offensive. The Russian Defense Ministry said all Ukrainian targets were successfully destroyed, although Ukrainian forces attempted to defend themselves with anti-aircraft fire.

The Russian attacks were not limited to the use of missiles and aircraft, but also included massive use of drones. Russian air defense shot down 35 drones and four Ukrainian missiles in several regions, including Kursk. These clashes caused a high number of injuries: 69 people, including eight children, were hospitalized, with some seriously injured. The attacks occurred in a climate of high tension, with Russia vowing a tough response to the Ukrainian incursion, seeking to contain domestic panic and minimize the impact of the Ukrainian offensive.

The Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region appears to be part of a broader strategy aimed at weakening Russian forces and destabilizing the situation within Russia. According to a senior Ukrainian security official, the operation is aimed at inflicting as many casualties as possible on the enemy and boosting the morale of Ukrainian troops. However, the incursion did not significantly reduce the Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine, although the intensity of the attacks decreased slightly.

The Kremlin, probably to avoid internal panic, decided to declare an anti-terrorist operation rather than a state of war or martial law. This decision, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), could indicate the Russian government's reluctance to take more drastic measures in response to the situation, instead trying to keep a low profile on the events in Kursk. Sources close to the Russian defense committee confirmed that Russian deputies and senators were asked not to comment on the events or to do so briefly, referring only to official statements.

In the context of this escalation, it becomes clear that both sides are suffering heavy losses and that the war is far from resolved. Ukraine continues to resist Russian attacks, but constantly suffers damage and casualties. At the same time, Russia, while trying to maintain control of the situation, finds itself having to face incursions on its territory, an event that could have significant consequences on both a military and political level.

The war is turning into an increasingly complex and difficult to manage conflict, with repercussions that extend far beyond the borders of the two countries involved.

The Russian attacks against Kiev and the Ukrainian offensives in the Kursk region represent an escalating phase of the conflict, with both sides seeking to gain strategic advantages in a context of extreme tension. Zelensky continues to solicit international support to strengthen the country's defense as Russia seeks to contain the domestic impact of Ukrainian operations. The situation remains critical, with an ever-rising death toll and little prospect of a quick resolution to the conflict.
