The State Police of Udine, with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Udine and the General Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Appeal of Trieste, of the Central Directorate of Criminal Police, Service for International Police Cooperation, allowed the arrest of five people in Bulgaria and Romania recipients of European arrest warrant.

Between October 12th and 15th, the Romanian Police, in the city of Arad, at the conclusion of a specific investigative activity of search for fugitives by the Flying Squad of the Udine Police Headquarters, with the coordination of the International Police Cooperation Service, carried out the European Arrest Warrants against a 23 year old, 47 year old, 40 year old and a 38 year old, Romanian citizens.

The four, recipients of restrictive measures from the Udine Public Prosecutor's Office, which provide for the first a sentence of 2 years in prison, for others that of one year and 9 months, were members of a cross-border association dedicated to facilitating illegal immigration of migrants of Bangladeshi and Afghan nationality, coming from Eastern Europe.

In this case, the five were arrested for the illegal dynamics discovered in this province. between September and October 2021, when they had done at least a hundred clandestine immigrants arrive illegally in Italy.

After the arrest, all the suspects were subjected to long periods of precautionary measures in Italy, but, after the plea bargain, they had left the national territory. The investigative activity allowed to locate and arrest the four in their country of origin.

The fifth arrest took place on 14 October, in Silistra in Bulgaria, where a was traced 63 year old Bulgarian, wanted in Italy because he has to serve 2 years in prison for a conviction by the Court of Appeal of Trieste, as he was held responsible for the crime of recycling, together with two other subjects.

The events in question occurred in 2009, when the Bulgarian citizen, together with an Italian and an Iraqi citizen, using a card of circulation and a falsified insurance certificate, they were trying to transport A high-end car across the border, received on “test” from a dealer in Campania.

The search activity of the investigators of the Flying Squad, following the irrevocable sentence of the Court of Appeal of Trieste last January, allowed them to ascertain that the Bulgarian citizen was resident in his country of origin, where on the morning of October 14 he was in fact arrested by the Police of that country, activated by the International Police Cooperation Service, in implementation of the European Arrest Warrant prepared by the General Prosecutor's Office of Trieste.

Extradition procedures are underway for all those arrested.
