The first televised debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump took place in Philadelphia, touching on crucial issues such as the economy, Ukraine, Gaza, abortion and immigration. Harris sought to distance herself from the Biden administration, claiming to represent a new generation of leadership. During the debate, she cornered Trump on several occasions, accusing him of ties to dictators such as Putin and Kim Jong Un and of having “sold out” the United States to China.
Harris also attacked Trump on domestic policy, berating him for the failures of his presidency, from unemployment to COVID-19 policies, and defended women's rights on abortion, criticizing her opponent's extreme positions.
Trump, on the other hand, tried to paint Harris as a “Marxist” and revived some of her conspiracy theories. He tried to criticize the Biden administration’s handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, but Harris responded, recalling that it was Trump who negotiated an unfavorable deal with the Taliban.
Despite Trump's typical rhetorical attacks, Harris maintained a calm and determined approach, even winning public support from pop star Taylor Swift. At the end of the debate, Harris called for a second debate, a sign of confidence and confidence in her abilities.
