The EU has approved the regulations for the digitalisation of the visa procedure

The Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union met yesterday in Brussels and approved the regulations for the digitalisation of the visa issuing procedure.

The Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union, meeting yesterday in Brussels, approved the EU regulations for the digitalisation of the visa issuing procedure. For Italy he was present the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and of International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani. The approval of the EU Regulations is in continuity with the action promoted by Minister Tajani, since the beginning of his mandate, to increase the security of visa issuing procedures, a commitment demonstrated by the provision of inspection missions in the Italian embassies in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Republic of Congo, which took place over the last few months, and the next ones which will take place in Italian diplomatic offices in Latin America. “Great satisfaction for the approval of measures that bring the EU digital, with the aim of strengthening legality and the fight against corruption”, commented the Deputy Prime Minister. “The security of visa procedures is a priority for the Italian Government, and we are happy that it is now also a European requirement”. Tajani therefore underlined the need for the Schengen area to move forward in a united manner on this front, reiterating that “Italy has all it takes to be a reference country”. The digitalisation of the visa issuing procedure pursues three main objectives. First, it will reduce the burden and cost of bureaucracy for Member States. Secondly, it will increase the security of the proceedings, putting an end to the process “visa shopping” in various countries. Finally, it will speed up the visa procedure for citizens of third countries.
