The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi participated in Madrid at the ministerial meeting of Med countries 9, the informal group of Mediterranean member countries of the European Union. The meeting was
focused on strengthening institutional, energy and migration cooperation between the EU and the countries of the Southern neighbourhood.

“The interdependence between Europe and the southern shore of The Mediterranean is deep and extremely complex. It's a priority therefore transform this interdependence into a factor of stability and prosperity" said the undersecretary, underlining the need to guarantee adequate financial resources to the Southern neighborhood also for
face the new challenges of migration.

"With regard to energy"  Tripodi continued  “Italy is strengthening the its role as an energy hub in Europe, acting as a bridge between the North Africa and the EU across the Mediterranean, privileging the partnership with African countries, as demonstrated by the Mattei Plan, the Climate Fund, 70% dedicated to Africa and the process of Rome". Finally, the Undersecretary recalled how, precisely to find new forms of collaboration and dialogue with the Partners of the Southern Neighborhood, the Vice-President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, proposed to the High Representative Borrell and Commissioner Várhelyi last October to create a Mediterranean Macroregion.
