Five people were arrested in Paris in the context of the investigations on jewelry theft that occurred on October 19 at the Louvre Museum. The Paris prosecutor's office announced it, Laure Beccuau, speaking on RTL. The arrests were carried out in several locations in the capital and in Seine-Saint-Denis., where the two men arrested last weekend also lived.
Among the five arrested is one of the main suspects, already identified by investigators thanks to traces of DNA collected at the crime scene. “It was one of the objectives of the investigation,” the prosecutor specified, adding that the other four men “could provide useful information on the course of events”.
According to the newspaper Le Parisien, the main suspect is thought to be one of the two men who were driving the scooters used during the theft. The man had already been identified but not yet located. His identification led, during the shadowing, to the arrest of the other four accomplices.
In the past few days, two men aged 34 and 39 had already been charged., accused of aggravated theft and criminal conspiracy. Both are in custody after having partially admitted their participation. Their lawyers have urged the respect for the confidentiality of investigations, underlining “the gap between the extraordinary nature of the case and the completely ordinary personalities” of their clients.
