Farnesina: Tajani meets Síkela and Busch to strengthen EU and transatlantic relations

Il Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani met with European Commissioner Jozef Síkela at the Farnesina , Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, received yesterday, March 24, at the Farnesina the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Síkela, with whom he discussed the importance of strengthening EU instruments in priority areas such as energy, connectivity and migration.

The future ofand the European Union's partnerships and cooperation with key international partners were at the centre of the discussions, with a focus on the importance of provide more investments to ensure stability and development in regions such as Africa, the Balkans, Latin America and the Indo-Pacific.

Sull'Africa, Minister Tajani recalled how, thanks to initiatives such as the Mattei Plan, the Italian agenda is in full synergy with the external action of the EU. Italy is making a strong contribution to the “Global Gateway” strategy also through the Lobito Corridor and the coffee initiative, in full collaboration with EU and G7 partners. OnLatin America, the head of the Farnesina reiterated how the historic presence of Italian companies in the region can contribute to the implementation of European priorities, in particular in supporting industrialization processes.

Minister Tajani and Commissioner Síkela finally agreed on the need to address the root causes of migration by strengthening cooperation with countries of origin and transit.

During the cordial meeting, Tajani and Busch took stock of the excellent bilateral Italian-Swedish relations and expressed their common desire to further strengthen the dialogue between Rome and Stockholm, starting with the commercial sphere.. Foreign Minister Tajani expressed particular appreciation for the considerable flow of Swedish investments in Italy and called for a further intensification of trade between our country and Sweden.

The two Ministers underlined the'importance of strengthening the EU's competitiveness and efficiency, including by investing in renewable energy to ensure the continent's energy independence.

Tajani and Busch finally agreed to maintain close coordination with the common objective of preserving the solidity of transatlantic relations and avoiding escalatory logic in the dialogue between partners in the trade sector.
