Brussels: Tajani attends Foreign Affairs Council and Conference on Syria

Il Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani will be in Brussels today to participate in the EU Foreign Affairs Council and the IX Conference on Support for Syria. Among the key topics: the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East and the strengthening of European security.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, is on a mission in Brussels today where will take part in the Foreign Affairs Council and the IX International Conference on Support for Syria. At the meeting of Foreign Ministers, the following will be discussed first of all: given space to the war in Ukraine and the prospects for reaching a just peace, thanks also to the recent American initiativeThe meeting will then continue with awide discussion on the situation in the Middle East, paying specific attention to the situation in Syria and Iran.

The Ministers will therefore have one exchange on the prospects for transatlantic relations and European security, also in view of the subsequent discussion at the European Council.

"At the Foreign Affairs Council, I will reiterate the importance of maintaining transatlantic unity. As confirmed by the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting in Canada, coordination among allies remains an essential element in addressing the many international challenges, starting with efforts to achieve a just peace in Ukraine." Minister Tajani indicated. The head of the Farnesina will underline the'the need for Europe to do more for its own security and to strengthen its strategic autonomy and the European pillar of NATO, working to strengthen the dialogue with Washington on all issues, first and foremost the trade one, as also discussed in the recent meeting with Secretary of State Rubio.  Tajani will then take part in the IX International Conference in Support of Syria, as a testimony to Italy's strong commitment to accompanying the transition and reconciliation process.

During the meeting, Tajani will confirm Italy's willingness to intervene to support and restore, together with partners, the country's critical sectors so as to alleviate the needs of the civilian population.
