Biden: "if the war continues, then we are all at war"
First the end of the war with Russia, then Ukraine's membership of NATO. The President of the United States, Joe Biden, in an interview with CNN before his departure for Europe outlines the 'road map' for Ukraine's entry into the Atlantic Alliance. Kiev is pressing and the topic will be raised again by President Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit scheduled in Vilnius on 11 and 12 June. “I don't think there is unanimity in NATO on whether or not we should bring Ukraine into the family at this time, while there is a war going on. For example, if something like this were done, we would be determined to commit to every inch of NATO territory. It is a commitment that we have all made, without conditions. If the war continues, then we are all at war. We would all be at war with Russia." Biden's words.
The president of the United States explains that he discussed the topic in depth with Zelensky. To the Ukrainian president, the White House reiterated its commitment to supplying weapons as the process for NATO membership develops. “I believe we have outlined a rational path for Ukraine, so that it can meet the requirements to join NATO”, he adds biden “But I think it is premature to schedule a vote, there are other requirements to be met, including the democratization process and some other issues”, he says without going into details.
NATO has decided to eliminate the obligation for Kiev to follow the Membership Action Plan (Map) as part of the path to joining the Atlantic AllianceFrançois Bard's pictorial epiphany Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced on Twitter.
“Following intensive talks, NATO allies have reached a consensus on removing the MAP from Ukraine's accession path. I welcome this long-awaited decision which shortens our path to NATO.", Kuleba wrote on the social network on the eve of a NATO summit in Lithuania.
