On 7 and 8 November 2023, Undersecretary Giorgio Silli participated in the Pacific Islands Forum Summit.

The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, with responsibility for the Pacific, George Silli he took part in the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders' Summit held in the Cook Islands. The regional organization, which also includes Australia and New Zealand, has brought together all the small island states of the Pacific since 1971. “My presence here today confirms the attention that Italy, Dialogue Partner of the Forum since 2007, has long shown towards the small islands of the Pacific, extremely vulnerable to the effects of climate change”, declared the Undersecretary.

The Summit, from the theme “Our Voices, Our Choices, Our Pacific Way”, has in fact concentrated on the concrete implementation of the “2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent”, created in 2019 by Pacific States to address seven priority issues: regional political unity, people's well-being, peace and security, economic development and resource use, climate change, ocean health, intra-regional and global connectivity.

“Italian action in the region is perfectly in line with the needs of the Forum: for years we have collaborated on the fight against climate change and the sustainable management of natural resources, the prevention of natural disasters and the safeguarding of the rights and cultural heritage of local populations . These are challenges that Italy
knows well and on which we intend to continue to lend a hand", said the Undersecretary.

The second representative of the Italian Government to participate in the Summit, the Undersecretary had meetings with representatives of Fiji, Cook Islands, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, East Timor and New Zealand and was also able to present the interlocutors with strong synergies with the candidacy of Rome to host the Universal Exhibition in 2030: “Sustainability and territorial regeneration, key points of the Rome EXPO 2030 project, are themes that unite our countries beyond geographical distances. I explained to my colleagues the countless opportunities for collaboration that will arise from the Rome Expo and the benefits for the Pacific countries", concluded the Undersecretary.
