The Italian government is working to obtain the release of Alberto Trentini, a cooperator arrested in Venezuela on November 15 and currently detained in unclear circumstances. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that the Farnesina is carrying out intense diplomatic activity to verify his health conditions and obtain his release.

«We have been confirmed that Alberto Trentini is being held", Tajani explained during a meeting at the Farnesina. "AWe have asked that he be treated in compliance with the rules and that he be guaranteed a consular visit. We are working in every way to resolve this situation».

Discreet but determined diplomacy

The minister reiterated the importance of maintain discretion on the case, avoiding clamor and controversy, as has already happened in previous similar situations, such as those of Piperno and Sala. «We continue to work with determination, without stopping, to ensure that Trentini can return to Italy as soon as possible», added Tajani.

The Italian government is also carrying on negotiations to obtain the release of eight other Italian-Venezuelan citizens currently detained in the country's prisons. This is a complex situation, aggravated by the delicate political and social situation in Venezuela, but Tajani assured that Italy will continue to do everything necessary to assist its fellow citizens.

The disappearance and the arrest

Alberto Trentini, 45 years old, is a cooperator of the international NGO Humanity & Inclusion and was arrested on November 15, 2024. Since then, no official information has been provided on the reasons for his arrest or on his health conditions.

Consular visit and respect for the rules

Through a meeting between the Secretary General of the Farnesina and the Charge d'Affaires of the Venezuelan Embassy, The Italian Government reiterated its request for a consular visit to verify Trentini's conditions and ensure that his rights are respected.

This preliminary phase is crucial to pave the way for more advanced negotiations, which aim not only at the release of Trentini, but also of other Italian-Venezuelan detainees considered political prisoners.

«Our diplomatic activity continues without stopping. As in previous cases, we ask for moderation and discretion also in this case.», Tajani stressed, explaining that the Italian government will continue to monitor the situation carefully, maintaining a constant dialogue with the Venezuelan authorities.
