The complaint of a "Russian disinformation campaign" comes from France
The French authorities “highlighted the existence of a digital information manipulation campaign against France involving Russian actors and in which state entities or entities affiliated with the Russian state participated, amplifying false information.”
The French Foreign Ministry writes this in a note, denouncing "an act unworthy of a permanent member of the Security Council” of the UN.
Paris “was able to detect this campaign upstream, which allowed the competent French authorities to take protective and preventive measures. The other relevant technical steps are underway. In particular, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs foiled an attempt at identity theft on its website ( www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/ )”, writes the Quay d'Orsay.
The investigations conducted “brought to light numerous elements revealing the involvement of Russian or Russian-speaking individuals and several Russian companies in the creation and conduct of the campaign.” According to the authorities “several Russian state or state-affiliated entities participated in the distribution of certain content produced as part of the campaign.”
“The involvement of Russian embassies and cultural centers that actively participated in the amplification of this campaign, including through their institutional accounts on social networks, is a further illustration of the hybrid strategy that Russia is implementing to undermine the conditions for a peaceful democratic debate and thereby undermine our democratic institutions. France condemns these actions unworthy of a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. No attempt at manipulation will prevent France from supporting Ukraine in the face of Russia's war of aggression. French authorities are working closely with their partners to defeat the Russian-led hybrid warfare,” concludes the note.
The French state service VIGINIUM responsible for monitoring digital security has ascertained the existence of a disinformation campaign carried out by Russia against the French media and authorities with the aim of producing fake news and manipulating information by impersonating state bodies, government authorities and authoritative newspapers such as Le Figaro and Le World.
In particular, sites identical to the real ones but with a different domain were created from which some anti-Ukraine news and communiqués were then disseminated.
