Tajani at the MED9 Summit: "Italian mission to Palestine and Jordan for the Gaza emergency. The goal is to consolidate the truce and build peace."

During the Mediterranean Summit in Slovenia, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced an Italian technical mission to the Palestinian Territories and Jordan, reaffirming Italy's commitment to stability in the Middle East and the "Two Peoples, Two States" solution.

It was held in Slovenia il MED9 Summit, which brings together the nine Mediterranean countries belonging to the European Union.

One of the working sessions was dedicated to the crisis in the Middle East, In presence of His Majesty Abdullah II of Jordan, welcomed with deep esteem by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, who wanted to thank him for the fundamental role he played in promoting peace in the region.

During the meeting, Tajani announced the launch of a Italian technical mission to Palestine and Jordan, with the aim of addressing thehumanitarian emergency in the Gaza Strip and lay the foundations for a lasting peace process.

“From today – declared the Minister – an Italian mission with all the branches of the State is operational between Jerusalem, Ramallah and Amman to verify the priority areas of intervention. We want to transform the ceasefire and the first phase of the Trump Plan into a true lasting peace.”

Italy, a protagonist in stabilization and reconstruction

In his speech, Tajani reiterated Italy's commitment to the long term three fundamental guidelines: reconstruction, stabilization e training of the future Palestinian ruling class.

On the front of the reconstruction, the Italian mission will focus on mapping the most critical areas, in collaboration with local authorities and international organizations.

With regard to the stabilization of the Gaza Strip, the Minister confirmed the Italy's willingness to strengthen the presence of the Carabinieri at the Rafah border crossing and in Jericho, underlining the role of our country as a leading player in future international and UN frameworks that will be defined.

Particular attention was also paid to the training, considered an essential pillar for the growth and autonomy of Palestinian society.

In this context, Tajani recalled the resumption of university corridors and announced the arrival of new Palestinian students in Italy, accompanied by the Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini, expected for Thursday.

The head of the Farnesina wanted to thank Jordan and Egypt for their active and constant collaboration in managing the humanitarian emergency and in the search for a shared political solution.

“Italy,” he stressed, “works closely with the countries in the region to ensure assistance and stability.”

Tajani also announced the Italy's participation in the next Cairo Reconstruction Conference, an initiative that will also see the involvement of the Italian private sector, in the wake of the success of the Rome Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine held last July.

Humanitarian commitment and international cooperation

Italy remains at the forefront also on the plan umanitario, by stepping up aid to the population of Gaza, particularly in food and healthcare sectors.

The Minister confirmed Italy's support for the humanitarian maritime corridor activated by Cyprus, considered a strategic tool to ensure safe and continuous access of aid to the civilian population.

With this mission and with the ongoing diplomatic initiatives, Italy reaffirms its vocation as a bridge between Europe and the Mediterranean, committing to promote dialogue, cooperation and the building of lasting peace in the Middle East.

A path that passes through the concrete solidarity, training of new generations , active participation in the reconstruction of the territories affected by the conflict.
